I am running a vx3 3.5-10 cds on my 0-300y 6.5cm never felt the need for more scope plus its nice and compact

I had issues with the VX-3i 4.5-14x40 re: FOV and eye relief and I'm not the only one, so I would avoid this specific scope. Not sure if the newer VX-3 HD is better in this respect.
Entirely depends on budget, give us a price range that your looking to spend and you'll narrow down the suggestions drastically

I'm a young fella so I'm looking at about 800 could go a bit higher but that's what I'm comfortable with
Sounds like its a Leupold VX3 3.5-10 for you. No need for CDS illumination or whatever if its your first scope. Simple is good. Look for a second hand retro one - the warranty will be good so ots safe as a new one. People will be upgrading so they appear for sale. Ask for help here if unsure of a sellers bona fides.
On second thoughts if you’re hunting in open country for a start a second hand range finder is your priority eg an old leupold too - they are rugged and bombproof. Look for a VX 1 ( no longer made but also bombproof) in 3-9x. That with the range finder will be better than a higher grade scope without.
A good 4x, 2-7, 3-9 would be all you need. If you want a great warranty , reliable scope and a really poor field of view, then the pre VX model leupolds would fit the bill. If you do want a good field of view and light gathering, the european offerings are almost always better than the early leupolds and the like of the same age. Warranty not so simple often. Kahles 4x ,2-7 if you can find one or 3-9 would be in your price range, swaros, zeiss of the same magnification too. They come up here from time to time if you're patient. Can't comment on other makes, as I haven't owned or looked through enough to make any judgment. ( not a leuplold hater, own and have owned several)

Swarovski z3 3-10 x42 with brh/brx reticle
Yep, brought a Bushnell 1300
True about the older Leupold glass.
I used a vx1 2-7 x 32 on my 7mm08 when I first got it and it was reliable but not so good in low light in the bush. Part of the problem was the crosshairs are too fine. Like looking through the end of a beer botle compared to european (swaro, kahles, zeiss, S&B) and VX3 but great at the price. Note that Swarovski (Z3 Z5) and Zeiss (conquest) have american series you can recognise by having inch tubes and moa adjustments not metric and they are pretty good too perhaps not as rugged as Leupold.
Do get a range finder first. Under 200m —> good to go. Over 200m —> think twice.
