    Good value scope .223

    Hi lads,

Im wanting some input on a good scope for a .223 that i can also use on a .308 in the future if i need to.

    Key points
    - Must be FFP
    - Prefer MRAD
    - Budget $500-$800

Ive got expirience using the Nightforce ATACR, Vortex Viper and Leupold Mark 6 so much prefer FFP, MRAD and parallax adjustment.
Few options ive been looking at is
    - Nikko Stirling Diamond 4-16x44
    - Athlon Talos BTR 4-14x44
    - Ranger Premier 4.5-14x44 (Heard these were made in the same factory as the Primary Arms sights?)

Anyone have any expirience or recommendations on other sights? Not overly keen on the Ranger as they dont even have a website for their gear, but if its an okay sight i can get over that.

    Cheers

Could definitely add that to the list. Very busy reticle for a hunt, much like a tremor3 in the ATACR

Look for an old Bushnell LRHS/LRTS.

Seems you lot did not get many of the 3-12x44 version, but there are a few old ads for the 4.5-18x44.

They are excellent scopes, FFP and Mil/MRAD, nice reticles, zero stop elevation with well designed turret. Windage either capped or locking.

There is not much point in getting FFP on a scope with 16 max power or below. the point of FFP is that you may want to use a magnification that is below the maximum mag but still involve enough drop that requires using the hash marks on your reticle. I struggle to think why you may need that when max power is 16 only. Why would you need to wind it down when shooting at 400m (using a 223), for example?

FFP makes sense when the max power is 24+, you may well want to shoot 400m with 16x power and need the reticle markings consistent.

Another reason for FFP with scopes with high magnification is that often the reticle hash marks are not designed for maximum power. Many scopes with max 30x power, have reticles designed for 25x power, for example Zeiss V6. FFP allows you to use the reticle at max power. But this does not usually happen with scopes with 16x power or below.

Go for a Vortex Diamondback Tactical, they come in FFP. Or just lookout for a second hand viper if you don’t mind second hand

Fully get where youre coming from, however FFP is what im used to and comfortable with for holds and dialing. However i may have to have a look at a Vortex 4-16 Diamonback SFP to see if i like it
