GPO & Meopta Scope Feedback Wanted

    Hi Forum,

I'm after some user feedback on the GPO & Meopta scopes. In particular the GPO CENTURI 2.5-15x44i MOAi and Meopta MeoSport R 3-15×50 RD SFP 4C.

They have the features I'm after with regards to mag range, illumination, SFP and ability to dial, and seem to fit between the budget and premium brands e.g Swaro, Nightforce, S&B etc.

Unlike many of the recent optic "manufacturers" offerings from what I can find GPO and Meopta aren't generic scopes that have been rebranded and marketed as their own.

The new Vortex Viper HD 3-15x44 SFP also ticks the features boxes, but I haven't come across many reviews/feedback that isn't biased or sponsored, call me skeptical of content originating from the US. But from my digging it appears the glass in the Viper HD is an improvement on the previous iteration of the Viper, it still inferior to that used in the my scopes of interest.

Happy to consider other options I may have over looked too.

    Thanks in advance.

Ive got the GPO 1.5-9 x 44i, and I really rate it. Right now I have it side by side with a Swaro Z3 in similar configuration minus the illumination and performance wise its holding its own though heavier. And I suspect the Illumination is evening the field a little.

I've got one of the Centuri 2.5-15x50's on a rifle, if you're near Christchurch and want to come and have a look.

Thanks for the offer, but unfortunately I'm in the other island and not due to be down your way anytime soon. I'm planning on dropping into a local retailer that has them in stock.

I cannot comment on the GPO at all nor on the specific Meopta. However, I can say that Meopta has not been a good brand for me in terms of getting a successful repair. I sent in a scope to the NZ agents who said that it had been replaced in their line up so parts were not available. They sent it back to the factory anyway, which was good of them, to have the black bits floating around inside removed. It came back minus the black bits which was good. I mounted it on a 223 and after 15 rounds the cross hairs did not track any more (not a problem when originally sent to the factory). I have had about 6 Meopta scopes and half of them had the dreaded black bits floating around syndrome. Optically they were really good but in terms of build quality not very good at all. I would think very carefully about a Meopta, as we live at the end of the earth, and that is not even the same world that Euro manufacturers operate in (after not very good after sales service from Zeiss and Swarovski).

I have a GPO Centuri 3-18x44. Very happy with it, clarity is excellent, right up there with some more expensive brands I own. Tracking is spot on. The push pull locking turrets work well, the only thing to be aware of is setting the zero stop which is not well explained in the manual which came with the scope. The GPO USA website has the correct info.
I also have a GPO Spectra 4-16x50, no issues its a good scope. the thing to be aware of with the spectra version is that the dials work in the opposite direction to what were accustomed, I think its a Euro thing. The spectra is made for the Euro market and the Centuri and Passion are made for the USA market.
GPO and some of the other newer scope brands which have recently come to the market seem to be able to produce a product which is equal or better in quality compared to some of the older more traditional brands. Fortunately for those older more established brand there are a lot what I'll call "Brand Snobs" out there who will not consider something like a GPO. I own some of both and when i compare them it is hard to go past the likes of GPO if you keep an open mind and compare price, features and performance.

Only a few of the gpo line are from japan, I personally wouldn’t bother with the rest. Not sure about this one

I'm surprised to read the above comments on the Meopta scope line. I have several Optika 5 & 6 models - All are on range rifles and the adjustments are reliable and I find the glass very good. I've never had a mechanical issue with any of them.
I also have a Maven RS5 & RS4 - These are Jap made and the overall quality is there. May be worth a look.

I tried to buy a GPO a couple of years ago but even Optics Trade couldn't supply the model I was after. I wouldn't hesitate to buy any of the Jap made GPO line.

I bought my GPO 2.5-15×50 Centuri after checking out @Pommy one, very good glass and features, especially considering the price. Looking forward to taking it hunting in a couple weeks

I did consider Maven RS5 and RS4 but a combination of cost and features put them out of contention.

Primarily cost and the RS4 being FFP

I've got a meopta optika 5 and like it. Glass is nice and clear and the klicks are solid and definite.
