Gun city quality firearms…. Yea na

Was at my local range testing loads and a nice chap and his lady turned up to test out his brand new tikka, it was a nice looking bit of kit, cerakoate barrel and action in a nice brown with a twist fluted barrel etc, 308 with a nice “looking” gun city suppressor on it, brand new VX5 scope ready for the 2025 roar!!, he set it all up tightened the suppressor, checked everything chambered the first factory round, I looked through my scope down range to see where his first pill went…… not to sure where it went but the can landed about 40 yards down range poor bugger drove to Gladstone from Wellington for that, yep another quality setup by GC, the threads were loose and we looked it all over, everything was matched thread wise so the threading was VERY poorly done, the cerekote was chipped of the front of the barrel, this for me is another tick on the long list of why I will never buy a firearm from gun city if they have played with it or it has any branded gun city made (china) part installed.

I wonder does it occur to people that with any product there will be less than perfect items slip through from time to time. Their turnover would increase these odds. I have bought a lot of firearms and equipment from gc and I have never had a problem with it. If the threads were fuked maybe the buyer should of checked the firearm over properly or taken someone who knew what they were looking at....

It's not reasonable for a buyer to have to check that threads are in-spec before buying an item. That's a failure on the part of the manufacturer/seller (regardless of who that happens to be)

@Nga was there any obvious sign that the projectile hit the can on the way through or just blast pressure ?

Threading for a suppressor isn't exactly difficult but does require a bit of care in set up and thread cutting.

I expect the gun plumbers at GC are aways under time pressure.

When I thread muzzles its for myself and for my own special projects.
I take the time to do it properly and check my work as I go.
Don't want a problem to catch me out in the field during a hunt and chance losing a shot at a decent animal

No mate everything looked ok except the workmanship. The shooter was not at fault either I chatted to him while he set it up and he was on point.

I would be suspect of the alloy grades being used in budget Chinese suppressors and their ability to resist pressure and therefore expand a seemingly ok thread engagement.

    The bore diameter
    Suitable muzzle thread size
    Muzzle shoulder
Suppressor alloy grade, quality and threads

All pretty easy to get right
All just as easy to get wrong.

My pick is it will be two or three things wrong to have a suppressor launch down range

When he put can on it was tight and seemed all good, the guy is an experienced hunter, he had another rifle with him as well, this was just his new setup…. Good people to.

not the first time guncity screw up with their "gunsmithing". seen plenty of cases like that... Sometimes i am suprised if they manage to mount a scope the correct way around...

another "green" retailer is just as bad btw.

I hope he gets his money back, and then buys somewhere were people are at least somewhat competent...

I'd be very weary of gun city work. While I have purchased firearms from them, and let's face it, probably will again, I wouldn't get them to set up anything or buy their branded gear. I've seen too many botch ups. A bloke at the range a few months ago had a bunch of trouble, only to work out his scope was moving around in the mounts, he'd had it set by GC that morning.

Gun City are the worst gun shop I have ever even heard of. And that's over three countries.

Thinking of clapped out vans with pop culture pictures hiding their rust holes and a 5lt bucket as a toilet being rented to back packers (what could possibly go wrong?) to brightly coloured push bikes that need to be stored with zinc and shouldn’t be taken out of the garage if relative humidity is above 0%, there has always been a market of undiscerning buyers looking to spend less to loose more, correspondingly there have been goods and services made available.
With the relatively recent rise in popularity of hunting in a world where most people get their knowledge online, it was always going to be inevitable that such retail practices would surface in the shooting world.

And when production cost per unit is 2/5 of 5/8 of very little, having a business model that doesn’t engage in QC is no problem for the seller, they can just drip feed the customer three for the price of one.
Poor old mate that hasn’t done the research on scope rings is the one that wears it in the pocket when that first packet of over inflated .270 dances all over the target at first attempt to sight in and then they have to go back and buy another packet off the people that sold them a package of knockoffs with a Tikka somewhere in the middle of it for credibility.

Righto fellas that's enough. If you have an issue with a retailer, your first port of call is to return to the retailer to remedy the issue.
Fair call to report the experience on here as a heads up, but this isn't Facebook and we don't need a big old whinge-fest.
Even the best retailers have bad days or get stung with bad product, I'm not defending GC, I've had good and luke warm experiences with a few outlets, but we're not gonna go open slather shitting all over the businesses that provide our hobby either.

Before anyone gets offended and takes this personally it is not aimed at anyone in particular but the general tone of this thread is heading in that direction, so I'm getting in before it goes totally to shit. I'd rather not have to delete and sanitize posts.
