Gun City why do people dislike them?

Morning all, I have never purchased anything from gun city before but i have not heard great things about them....

Im lookin at a bare SKS for $499... reasnoble-ish price ...

Why do people dislike them? Anything i should be concerned about in purchasing a 'new' rifle from them?

Personally I will NEVER deal with them no matter how cheap they are. I will happily pay more eleswhere.

The staff I have encountered there are rude and unhelpful. Unknowledgable and offhand. The final straw for me was a few years back when I was
looking at a new rifle and was offered 2k for a trade. I sold the trade myself on TM 2 weeks later for $4200.

I understand the difference between wholesale and retail but out and out price fixing I wont wear. I dont even make $2200 out of a brand new 40 k car for goodness sake.

Being blacklisted by them on trade me by them for pointing out false advertising and over inflated prices didnt endear me to them either. I could keep typing all morning. The bottom line
    is they are cocks.

I always enjoy your posts Nathan. To the point. And forgive me, I love the irony...the car salesman gives gun city a lesson on integrity

Too many stories of poor quality (even on supposedly new stuff), bad after sales service, dodgy advice, inflated pricing etc.

    Buyer beware...

Over here in AUS a shooting forum that I was a member of doesn't exist any more , because a member said some not so nice things about a major gun shop in Brisbane .
They took the Forum owner , administrator to court and basically rogered him really badly . Even though he didn't post it himself , it still came back to haunt him and he paid the price .
I don't how your rules work , but I maybe would suggest a little caution .
Funny thing is , Gun Cities reputation has even spread as far as Australia , I've heard it mentioned a few times over here and none of the comments have been favourable .

Gun City if fair game over here with 12month open season
From actual experience I would class their service etc as "variable". I think the longer someone works there the worse they get.

the reason is you cant please everyone...............there are far more wingers than happy people out there voicing there woes. They may be valid aswell but you don't hear the good points with all hunting shops and gun shops.Imagine what the inbox is like for the wharehouse and places like that.I believe that if you have bought of a shop and it wasn't good tell it them, dont buy of them a second time and have the nerve to winge again!there are plenty of other retail shops out there to choose from
This is not a dig at any one on here it is just my opinion.

partly tall poppie syndrome, partly higher prices, partly staff are trained to sell hard and are pushy, partly i think because they often take advantage of uneducated customers, and partly because of the elitist attitude they hold

they are great to deal with via trademe, when you know what you want and it is just a straight transaction. fast to post and profesional ect.

live and let live. they have some serious competition now other people like Digit are in the game

I bought a 10/22 buffer off them on Trademe once. Going on their reputation that's put me off buying anything else. Typical of human nature you don't hear of the good experiences.

Like a lot of shops they have their good and bad.

I have had good and bad experiences with them and every time the experience was good they ended up with a sale, when it wasn't good they lost a sale. It really comes down to the salesman on the floor plus the fact that I've been shooting for a long time so have an idea where the market lies for products I'm interested in. Plus I'm prepared to haggle and walk away from the purchase if I don't think the price is right.

I would not recommend them as a starting point for anyone getting into shooting though as the advice they often give is suspect and they are geared towards fleecing the most money they can out of un-suspecting buyers.

P.S. I think $500 is on the high side for a SKS with 7-round magazine.
