Did Webley make a 455? I remember having the opportunity to play with one when I was about ten years old. Even then, with my limited knowledge of revolvers, I can remember thinking the sliding top half was "different". I think it was a 455.
Yes, Webley made a number of .45 Caliber Revolvers. Most of them were in .445 Webley. The one you're thinking of is a Webley Fosbery. That was a Semiautomatic Revolver and the later famous Mateba series used a similar design.

Not all DA Revolvers were quick to reload. The Colt 1877 and 1878 for example had side loading gates like the 1873 design.

Picked this up yesterday, Kimber 308 Adirondack, vx3 3.5-10x50 dpt cap, 3.1kgs with a full mag, bullets all touching at 100 so pretty happy.
Have to say its a very nice rifle shoulders & points as well if not better than any gun ive handled.
Cheers @von tempsky fan who went out of his way to get this to me.

They are factory 18" - looks about that (although probably chopped off the absurd factory thread to replace with a decent thread size...)
