BLR, 308 , last of the steel receiver models.
I've got one the same. Whats your trigger like?
The BLR trigger? Its "ok" havnt shot it yet. But seems same as other BLRs ive shot.... heavier than a bolt action for sure, but ok for inside 100m.
I'm going to check out his stuff this morning...
I got a BLR trigger worked ( factory trigger was difficult to use accurately ) by a well known gunsmith a number of years ago.
It was considerably worse when I got it back and cost a bit.
He didn't want to know about it even though the hammer would drop when the action was worked fast.
Took it to Robbie at Gunworks ( not the gunsmith who did the trigger job ) and he put all new factory parts back into it and I sold it knowing that it was at least safe to use again.
So be careful what you do to improve the factory trigger.
I guess if I worked the action and pulled the trigger a few thousand times it might smooth up a bit.
Sounds like that first gun smith got the cogs all wrong on the reassembly.
Easy to do. I've had the trigger reworked on mine. The Gunmaker did his time four years at Purdys
So knows what he's doing. Not like some of the butchers I've seen in nz that call them selves smith:(
If you want to know the age of your BLR look at the serial number. See where the letter is mine is K73 so made in 1973
There will be some numbers before that.
Goggle BLR and shooting with Hobie he has an article on how to age them.

Looks like it shoots pretty well with factory ammo

New to me Tikka .223 to match the Son's rig thanks to @Sasquatch Looking forward to blasting some Goats, Hares and other small furry creatures very soon.
Nikko Stirling LR 6-24x50
Atlasworxs Bottom metal
Greystone 0 MOA Rail
Hardy Gen 4
Leupold Quick Release low 30mm
What are those Nikko LR scopes like?
Dunno mate. Never actually shot it yet.
Looks clear enough and has etched reticle.
For $489 its hard to moan about quality really. The clicks are positive (but not like a Nightforce) has enough mag for the small critters, reticle is actually quite functional and uncluttered, both red and green illumination and the glass is ok really. In fact, I like it more than the Sightron S-Tac scope I had.
The Sight picture suffers a bit with some clarity at high mag but all in all, so far it looks really good for the money.
I'm a big fan of 50mm objectives so this gives me the field of view I want at the cheap price and, to be honest, it doesn't hurt to keep it if I have to go overseas quickly.
I'll get a Nightforce or Bushnell DMR-ERS as the next "true long range" scope when I know I have time to reload and the funds to build or buy some kind of .260 but for now, this will do!
I must add that I put the 4-16x50 on my son's .223 so it was less than $1k for two scopes. The 4-16x50 offers better edge to edge clarity and is perfect for the intended use of smashing gongs out to 300yds and small critters.
I have had a quick play with a 3-15 one.
If they work well in regards to dialing I would say pretty awesome for the price.
Glass wasn't to shabby at all.
Very surprised. Bulky tho.

Yes, quite heavy.
We won't be hiking all day and I have a biathlon sling for the young fella so he can carry the weight easier.
Here is the two of them on the same model rifle.
The 4-16 is significantly smaller.

Hey @SlimySquirrel Where did you source the biathlon sling from?
I got it in the states but my Mum has decided she can make them. Do you want me to ask her for a price?

Nice rig mate. I have 2 mod7's one with xlow rings the other low, just beware that if you have a larger head the xlow rings might be too low for the BnC stock, it definitely had a higher comb.
Couple of new toys

stud stock, dpt suppressor
69 game kings at 2680 fps 5 shots into .4" (shoots pretty good) :)

Those are definitely Sako optilock rings.. nice rigs man.
Man I must have been half asleep when I posted that
Yep optiloks and they are the 69gr match kings
Haha... Cool man! Tmk or the bthp?
Cheap 2nd hand option mate. Lighter than factory and stiffer plus has a slightly higher comb.
Got my hands on this 308 yesterday so took it for a bit of a shootup today , really happy with it so far it tic,s all the boxes , bare rifle 20" barrel 6 3/4lb but with the Suppressor , bipod & the scope which is pretty weighty its adding up but it can shoot  was using 178grn eld-x .another feature iv never used before is the decocker its pretty wicked though go,s against the grain a little seemly safer to have a round up the spout bolt closed than half bolt !! ?
