    Gun Values

As suggested in another thread it may be good to start this topic.
What do you guys think, here's what I've found.
Custom guns half in value instantly, more so in obscure calibers.
Higher end guns blaser/sako seem to devalue very little from new compared to initial outlay.
Cheaper guns like Remy and tikka seem to hold value?
In the end I guess it's worth what people want to pay and if you actually want to sell it.

    Would have to agree.
I built a flash as .264 win mag years ago. Shot a few animals with it and realized it was no where near practical. Sold it for under half than what I payed.

Have a rifle now that will go to my son and it covers every base in one platform. Will never own another centerfire unless I ever get into Fclass.
Wish I knew then what I know now and I would have more money for other things.

I had a rifle built earlier this year in 7-375 real happy with it but I know that I would probably loose money if I were to sell it. It's all about doing your homework and making sure its what you want before taking the plunge with custom rifles.

As for my Sako Vixen it's going up in value.

Anything is worth what you can get someone to pay for it.
Generally I wouldnt pay more than 2/3rds new price for second hand.

A good rule is sell a 2nd hand gun in normal condition for 2/3rds of new cost. E.g $3,000 sako's sell for $2,000, $1200 Remington sells for $800. The exception seems to be a tikka where a people try to sell a $1200 new rifle for $1100....

The more money you spend on a rifle the more money you are going to lose when you come to sell....

.270s and .243s are the main problems with rifles. They decrease the value tenfold. Being a tikka also decreases the value

Any modifications decrease the value, any extras add zero value unless the buyer specifically wants them. Extras 99% of the time decrease the value in my opinion, because it's a hassle getting rid of shit that I don't want

So once the initial loss has been made on the first sale from new, how stable do prices remain on subsequent sales, ie they do not continue to devalue as a car does, so more emphasis is then put on condition and add ons?

threading the barrel decreases the value unless you lucked out and the buyer was going to shorten to the exact same length, wanted the same thread and was going to get it done by the same gunsmith.

Saying this gun has shot 1000 deer, 1000 pigs and hasnt missed one yet does not increase value of said gun.

I'm not sure I would say Blasers don't drop in value, I think they simply plateau in value with the second owner, but that first sale appears to be a doozie for the first seller as far as I can see.
