Hagn Single Shot Action. Martin Hagn's death

In a recent For Sale post for a Ruger #1 there was mention from a forum member about his Hagn actioned rifle.

That pricked my memory and I just thought I would mention that Martin Hagn died late last year.

He was a truly remarkable firearm builder.
His action is almost universally considered the very best of the currently made custom single shot rifle actions.
Everything about his rifles was artistry and nearing perfection.
The action design is a very elegant falling block, but he managed to perfect it so that there are no visible fastenings or pins.
I suspect there were countless hours spent perfecting this design and I expect it will be a long time before.
He was perhaps one of the greatest rifle machinists of our time and also had an perfect eye for the look and lines of the rifles.

Here is a link to the Hagn web site

    https://www.hagnriflesandactions.com/

So maybe some of you Hagn rifle owners might like to post up some images and your thoughts about your Hagn.

And a quick search of the internet will turn up thousands of images and glowing descriptions of these spectacular rifles

Look down through the gallery and marvel at the lines of those rifles.

I think he was fairly well along in age when I got mine, still people like that will always be missed. Reminds us of mortality.

    Yes
I think when Ralph Martini worked with him they were pretty productive and plenty of units got made without the standards falling at all

    Agree with @akaroa1 , a genius artisan gunmaker .

Have always admired them , nearly popped on a second hand one that Ralph Martini was selling some years back when the exchange rate was better .

I would almost certainly buy a Hagn if I found one available in NZ despite it lacking a hammer

Just as a representation of the very best design and manufacturing of his time.

Easily the equal of my Alexander Henry 1873.

@akaroa1You've got a steam powered coffee machine that produces works of art, so why doesn't your phone camera, pressure too low or scale in the boiler?

Ah @Marty Henry the E61 espresso group head was first released in 1961 and is still considered the best of the best.

Mobile phone technology just seems to keep moving forward at pace

I must clear up re the hagn, I do not own it anymore. It was chambered in a 6.5 cal using a 204 case. My best shot with it was on a wallaby at 328 yrds in the head. Shear fluke, but I did shoot a lot that day at over 300. Using an 85 gr speer flat base n hollow point.
Had the ex look everywhere for a pic but it's disappeared for now, there might be a sleuth here somewhere who's much better at finding it, but then again it might have been on the old site.

@akaroa1, would also love to own a Hagn. I looked at the one in Australia for sale two or three years ago. It had been rebarrelled many years ago and in keeping.
I’ve got a couple of Dakota M10’s and although they may not be considered in the Hagn class they present very well for a modern rifle. Here’s one of mine.

Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out
