Got one in pieces that I didn’t pull apart (long story!) and trying to reassemble it.
Firing pin only slides forward to flush with face of bolt - what’s the go there
Got two piece cocking piece and tiny spring - how do they fit together?
Any photos/sketches/advice welcome!
Is this the same as the Norinco JW14 and clones? I think that this was the same as the Armscor Model 20P, if I have the right rifle? And that was a knock off of a European rifle which I can't recall.
If I have the right rifle, it will likely be to do with the assembly of the bolt, recoil springs, bolt handle and the sear and trigger group. I had one of these, and recall a similar thing where if it wasn't put back together just right it didn't play and also would not cycle at all. I have a book which shows the disassembly of it and offers a one-page of reassembly hints which isn't that helpful as it doesn't actually show the relationship of sear to bolt. I can post them up though if it would help. Another not very humorous post by me! :D
also pays to radius out the inner square edge of the pin to avoide it cracking

BTW: I forgot to mention this is a semi auto action.!
Radius the firing pin to prevent cracking - yep sounds like the right rifle haha. I'll work on some pictures later and post up. Don't have a schematic as such I think - but I'll check that too.

Can't remember enough to be of any help to you, however when I had one of these I was told that a gentle chamfer added to the firing pin would turn it into full auto (fire until mag is empty though). Back then I was tempted to try it too

Apologies, couldn't get past the fact that Google couldn't copy this for me. Takes a bit to stuff a couple of hundred page book through a scanner... I've left them as large as I could within the limits of the forum, I don't think anything else would be any better for being able to zoom in on the pictures. The Norinco version is a little different to what is in the photo's I can't recall from the Stirling whether that was the same or not. I had to make another firing pin for my one out of gauge plate and harden it - it cracked through the corner as noted above.
Yep, that's what mine started doing until the firing pin broke in half. One, maybe two then the bottom of the mag out in one go. A bit annoying, that was all the ammo we had in four or five shots and then had to sort a busted rifle.Quote:

I suspect the ball bearing from the cocking handle has gone missing when the person who dismantled things removed the handle.
I’ll investigate further….
Pretty sure it is the same size as the one under the safety I remember using that one to get the one I had going when I disassembled it.
For a replacement ball bearing inside the cocking handle (on top of the spring) would a no.3 ( or appropriate size!) steel shot do?Quote:

Steel shot MAY be too soft and wear out depending on quality of it. Will take a fair while..hard lead shot might weirdly enough last longer,it won't rust lol
Well as it happens I had no steel shot I ended up using hardened No.4(?) lead shot, works like a charm and thanks to advice from @Hindquarters the action is all back together and seems to function.Quote:

PS- don’t have your right thumb anywhere near the ejection port when jiggling the cocking handle into place and it doesn’t hold and you’re on blood thinners.:o.
