I have had a few .223 and handled alot of the models mentioned.

I had a savage weather warrior, pre accu - stock but had the accu - trigger, ok gun but nothing to write home about. Stock was very average.

Howa, good quality Jap workmanship slapped into a fucken chunky horrible stock, felt clunky , ill fitting and awkward to me .

Remington 700, trigger job helped and it pointed well, good shooter for a ADL model but 1 : 12 twist

Cz527, bolt a little gritty but did improve with use. Nicely made and no plastic, awesome set trigger that could be used normally. 1;9 twist and was bloody accurate. Highly rate them.

Tikka T3 I got from a forum member, I know they are bland but accuracy is never boring so this thing was very exciting to take out. Smooth bolt and nicely balanced.

For me and only my opinion I would look at either a CZ 527 if you like the more traditional look and feel but with new world manufacturing and quality.
Or Remington model 7 with the right twist rate, a lot of guys on here have a lot of love for the Model 7 and rate it as a quintessential NZ hunting rifle. Plus you have a choice of stock finishes, stainless etc.
You would need to handle both rifles to see what felt right.
    Good luck

I briefly had a Savage lightweight hunter (the forum slut 6.5CM), in a wood stock. Lovely looking little thing, but i just didnt like their (savage) funny bolt assembly. Its just odd.

I also couldnt see myself hunting with it, it was just too pretty to bang around in the hills, even tho im very careful with my gear. So i didnt own it that long.

I have a T3 with 6 round mag. Splendid little rig that shoots well. It has a fee upgrades like Ali bottom metal/ rail/ 6 round mag/ B&C stock and big bolt knob and tgey make it waaaaaaaaay faster and cooler... as mentioned before, I find their accuracy very exciting!!

For the Howa crowd - here's a "hacked" mini that is my truck gun. I took to the stock with a horse rasp and 1/2 an hour later it was much nicer to handle. The mag was cut down to 4 rounds (but you can wack a 10 shoter in for those goat/pestie shooting days when you need more bombs downrange) and the mag release cut off (even without it cut I never lost a mag) Its still to be parkerised.

A few lightweight rifles come to mind:

    Sako 85 Carbonlight “XS” action length - 1:8 twist, 20”, 2.4Kg

Kimber Montana - 1:9 twist, 22”, 2.438Kg (and half the price of the Sako)

    Dude... it's a fricking lazer.

Should be better with the Athlon attached too... gonna smash some gongs later in the month.. can you say "smash" when referring to a .223?

Went around the different shops today to compare as many as I could.

    - Tikka Superlite and the carbine are very nice and they are a great package. Don't like the mag or bolt release. But I can live with those
    - The Remmy Tactical is a heavy stick not really on same page to be fair, but worth a look for shits and giggles
    - No one stocks either the Remy700 or the Model Seven so I couldn't compare
    - Ruger American has an action worse than a Norinco. Seriously what a piece of shit
    - CZ 527 was nice, really like that rifle.
    - Browning X-Bolt Ok but stock felt very budget. Action was smooth enough. Don't like the mag though
    - Savage 11/111 Lightweight Hunter was good too. Probably the lightest of those I compared. Strange bolt but it was smooth enough. Wood and blued rather than syn and stainless though. Not a biggie really. The wood felt good....

Basically came down to the Tikka, Savage and CZ

    Savage, I rate mine
Chopped to 19”, suppressed, load my own
It shoots better than I do !
He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

Thats the way. Get a good feel for the rifles mentioned.

I loved the accuracy of my Savage but hated the feeding issues I had on mine. Bot new and old fed like shite unless they were polymer tipped or fed slowly.
Tried adjust the mag lips but it was to no avail. Also, the trigger wouldnt fire unless pulled straight back... I mean STRAIGHT back with zero allowance for mistakes.
It did cluster at 100 with 5 shot groups though.

Moved onto Tikka and never looked back.. zero issues, great accuracy and smooth both throw...
