Help plse - Marlin 22 value

I am thinking of moving on a bolt action marlin.
It's a model 780 I think of 70/80's vintage.
Currently wearing a period Hubertus 4x32 scope.
The rifle has a 7 round mag from memory and according to the barrel script is chambered for shorts,longs and long rifle.
Also has some nice factory carving around the grip areas on grip and forend.
Dusty from the safe but I would say very tidy for age and shoots like a laser .
Missing front sight and sling swivels ...

Any idea on value of such a rifle ???

Looking to possibly list in buy sell section depending on what it's worth. F-all and I may as well keep it but trying to empty the safe out a little

I would put $350 on it, maybe $400 on a good day….. best of luck

Agree with FSS's estimate above. $350-450. And worth every cent.

Nice bolt action 22LR - what is serial number? If it has the gold trigger and little sling inserts - appears to - then its a DL or deluxe model. This model and variants 780/81/82/83 ended late 80s. They were followed by the model 880s and models 25 and 925. All good little rifles - very accurate with the microgroove barrels and better made than later models like XT-22 made in Remington period. Little bit of old school class to this one..

Excellent little bolt action for anyone to buy. You could pay alot more for some contemporary name brand and get alot less. Should you be selling this FT??

it has the gold trigger yes and holes where the sling studs would normally be .
serial #23792776 also states shorts, longs and lr on the barrel as mentioned .
micro groove and yes it shoulders very well , is very well balanced and as mentioned shoots like a laser . I think it's a 22" barrel .
It just never gets used bar the odd day at the range picking off clay pigeon shards on the 50 mtr bank for a bit of fun .....
thought after 20+ yrs residing in the safe neglected it might be time to move it on to someone who will use and appreciate it .

Fair enough - and yes its a 1977 model. Nicely made old school 22LR.

Someone should grab this. People may run around thinking they must have a CZ/Brno, new CZ 455, or some new precision rimfire etc for hunting, but this 45 yr old Marlin will match them for performance for 1/2 or 1/3 the price.

Those Marlin's, and some others from that era were incredibly accurate. Would make a nice run and fun for PRS style comps. I think the later mags still fit as well.

I ran one of those scopes on a.30-06 for years.
Was a goodie.

I just been running the cheap white Winchester brick ammo, supersonic, that I use for hunting in my papoose when playing at the range and find both rifles very accurate with it surprisingly .
The scope glass is still in good nick and the whole unit is very much usable.
I showed it to a friend of mine today who shoots target 22's and he was very impressed with it's balance and pointability and the way it just naturally shoulders.
It's one of those situations where if I had no respect for the rifle I would cut the barrel back and suppress then I would use it myself, but I couldn't do that to such a rifle .

Muzza - if you are buying this 780, let us know how it goes. Microgroove barrel should really like CCI ammos and possibly Aussie Winchester. If you also bought that Norinco JW9?? on here recently, let us know on that one too.

Should both be good performers and 780 should be a fine wee hunter with the old Hubertus scope. Steel rings too I see..

Few of us around with that rimfire problem..

Keep an eye on that 780 mag - not same as later marlins and could be hard to replace. The heavy barrel JW9 should be the most accurate, but with right ammos the little Marlin may run it very close..

Had some pretty good ones through to about 2008 or so. Last model 60 semiauto 22LR I bought was the anniversary Marlin 60 Deluxe from about 2010 - a wee beauty in black walnut, gold trigger, gold lettering etc. Very accurate too - but far too pretty for a straight worker rifle. Remington ownership era started around then and standards dropped away markedly.
