The politicians don’t need to fuck with the law- they simply need to ensure the police and courts enforce the laws we have in place already and see that meaningful sentences are handed out. If there’s not enough room in prisons then start removing body parts

What immense stupidity that load of codswollop amendment is.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Yeah I mean it would mean that anything you do which makes your firearm shorter will make you an instant criminal. So fit a thiner recoil pad ................ criminal.

Cynical part o me says thats exactly what they meant to do, its easy to find criminals when you have all their current addresses

I know what I'm gonna say may be frowned upon and as much as I encourage us all to be polite in response to this (as I will be....)

    ....

But seriously, they can kiss my hairy ass.

Yes Rushy, that one certainly looks like it was thought out well doesn't it. If this is the result of an MP and Police getting their heads together, ... if their collective brains were made of gunpowder I don't think there would be enough there to ruffle a moustache let alone blow a single hat off!

Just the standard response (thank you, we will look into this) from one of his minions, or something of substance ?

Wairarapa has a strong national base, lots of rural voters. I sincerely hope the voters let the party management in that region know exactly what they think of such a poorly thought out piece of drivel. I suspect they could do significantly better than the current MP...

    Nope surprisingly not.

    Actively engaged in conversation.

I let him know he was about to single handedly alienate 200,000+ law abiding firearms owners from ever voting National again.

    Excuse the politics admin.

Funny how Politicians react when their jobs potentially on the line

I just suggest we take the pen away from him and give him his crayons back. Clearly he misses them. I also suggest that he needs to buddy up with Kermit and Gonzo. He will fit in well with the other muppets.....Clearly he writes like a muppet.

He will be receiving a well thought out letter from me. And so will a number of other politicians. The fact that the "police" have said to have teamed up with him to create a new law when there is already a far more well written one there. (Minimum legal length). I would love to know what "Police" involvement means because most police officers I know have easily enough smarts to not have made such a poorly written piece of rubbish. It is a waste of resources. The money spent with consultants and all the other bull that goes with it would be far better being used to fund more nurses and mental health workers.

    Hello Mr Scott

If the copy of your proposal on this site is accurate
Alastair Scott’s proposed Arms Act amendment – FIREARM OWNERS UNITED NZ
then I am dismayed at your proposal

I don't think that you know how firearms work

Every gun cut down for a re-crown job will now be classed as a pistol

Every gun cut down to allow for the natural balance point of putting a suppressor on it (helps if your dog doesn't go deaf) will now be classed as a pistol

How long is a cut-down gun? Your proposed amendment doesn't say
Are you trying to get rid of firearms by classing them as pistols?

This amendment would instantly outlaw around 40% of my rifles and I only have one gun that would be considered a cut-down at the moment - a shotgun which was issued to Forestry Service staff for dealing to possums in dense bush
When I am done with this piece of rubbish I will put an angle grinder through it as I think that it is the only responsible thing to do with it

I do things like this as a responsible firearms owner

Your bright idea to outlaw a large section of the shooting community will lose votes

If this piece of legislation goes through then I will not vote National in the next election
