It aligns with the vague points I've tried to make for about a decade or more regarding accuracy and precision e.g https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co....cision-103608/

My result is meaningless, I just felt obliged to do it after I mentioned in the comments of his video that I'm confident I can produce that result with one rifle, but I'm not confident as many other people/rifles can as make the claim.

Extremely good shooting, to get these sorts of results you need a very consistent position and hold, not to mention all the other fundamentals of good shooting. And a rifle/load combination in good tune. Well done.

We are running this challenge "Backfire TV Jim Harmer" style (zero and group) on our range in June. A $200 voucher up for grabs for the first to achieve it. I doubt we'll lose the voucher but the excuses/moaning will be interesting.

This was shot with an arbitrarily selected load with no development... more to come on that in future....

When you said the group was "20 mils" I thought "that's a massive group"! Then the penny dropped.


Identify your target beyond all doubt because you never miss (right?) and I'll be missed.

You seem to have gone through a few different FFP scopes and still haven't found the perfect one?

I bought it 2nd hand and I can't reset the windage turret to zero unless I send it back to Japan for repair. Which is hard. NZ agent service isn't awesome. It should be a 3-18. Otherwise, it is very good.

I see you posting on Snipershide every now and then, sounds like you are still waiting for the perfect FFP hunting scope (like myself).

How do you rate the short DPT suppressor on 223?

Great shooting @gimp. These 1 MOA challenge types things the youtubers are running are a real eye opener. Good to see it's actually possible!
I realise I've been wasting ammo and components for years chasing three shot "groups" around the paper.

It has been a phenomenally long wait

The DPT mini is good on the .223. Maybe not as quiet but quiet enough, and it is light and makes a very compact package. @DPT make em standard!

After listening to the hornady podcast awhile ago I came to the same conclusion recently and now just load a ladder around the powder bullet combo I want looking for pressure/the velocity i want before going to large sample sizes stopping if it looks terrible from the get go (over 2 MOA). Anything sub 2MOA for 30 is acceptable less is better but being realistic about my own shooting ability and shooting ultralight rifles thats a realistic even if its a slightly less exciting outcome. (still shoot plenty of sub moa actually mostly sub moa 3 shot groups but the 6.5creed ended up around 1.3MOA after 30 rounds and the 280AI needs another 10 before I confirm anything. I am however glad I'm no longer "chasing zero" with my "sub MOA" rifle.

Same question about the mini DPT and also wondered why you went with the mullerworks vs some commonly available options?

It was what was available, I actually thought I had a Bartlein. Either one is the same thing, it's a cut rifled match barrel. Clearly it is adequate.

@Beetroot and @gimp I’ve been looking for the right FFP scope too, and I think I’ve found it. Just ordered one, should be here next month. 2.5-18x 44 with a reticle that works from 2.5x. Not the lightest, but very reliable and well priced.
