Have a FX Typhoon in .22, it's a PCP with a 12 shot magazine, fills to 300 bar via 12l dive tank, will generally go through 36 shots before a noticeable drop off in power and accuracy. The main difference for shooting with an air rifle is that you're going to spend more time making sure you take the perfect shot. But the advantage to an air rifle is the velocity and energy drop off over distance, so it's quite handy to use near roads, on golf courses, etc. A few years ago I used it inside a veggie greenhouseand no broken glass. I use it solely for target shooting now.
Try swinging by Youngs Air Guns on Dominion Rd and see what he has in stock - there's a few things on the wall he doesn't list on the web site.
Back in the day of nzairgunners.com there was a thread about goat hunting near Wanganui, loads of pix and tips. So some people do use air guns, for a variety of reasons.
