How to get rid of an old stock?

I've got a couple of those 'stock' stocks you get when you buy a rifle and then want to ditch ASAP. A Howa and a Remington, both bendy plastic things. Since I can't even give them away without police paperwork, I'm guessing dumping them at the tip is not OK. Do I need to cut them in half or something?

They don't I guess, but just sitting around is good for nobody. I didn't think they'd be useful to anybody else.

Take them to the police station and ask them to dispose of them.

Doubt it, you can surrender any firearm or parts to the police that you want.

This clause says that destruction of any firearm part needs to be reported to the Police. https://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/...LMS368602.html

If you don’t want a firearm anymore you are perfectly entitle to take it to the Police and surrender it. Now that stocks are legally firearms parts the same thing will apply.

@YosemiteSam I'd take the Howa stock off your hands if you don't want it. As long as you are happy for me to swing by and pick it up.

@jakewire firearms parts need a firearms licence to purchase, so a mail order form is needed if you can’t physically sight the firearms licence.

If you want to know what a firearm part is look at this link https://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/.../DLM72627.html

Go to the Interpretation and look for the definition of firearm part.

Ignoring the technicality, I was being facetious in case you didn't spot it. My comment was aimed at the priority issues- cops have 1000X more important things to deal with that than sorta crap. It's a bit like reporting someone you spotted smoking electric puha.
