    How short 7mm WSM

So, for my next project I have a tikka action which I have a 7mm WSM shilen fast twist (1in 8 I think) to put on it. It will be suppressed, fluted, carbon stock etc to be a all round hunting rifle that will be carried a loooong way.

My question is how short can I cut the barrel and still get decent speeds, 3000fps in 162 Amax would be a good, I'm not a fan of high pressure loads and would be wanting to shoot out to 700ish

Could I get away with 22inch?

    Cheers

ill tell you after winter when i build one
Dont waste your time chasing every last fps, it doesnt matter in the real world, it wont make a difference, all it will do is cause head aches and frustrations. And dont listen to silly old cunts

3000 just a number and for 700 meters 2800 should cut it.

Thanks for the feedback guys, have done the SAUM thing and all setup for WSM so will go that way. 3000 is just a number but needed something to start the discussion. Hmm 24 you say, I would have hoped for shorter, I have another WSM at 23 that does that and it has been up to 3200.

Does anyone have a short barrelled short magnum?

Your first post mentions that you are not a fan of high pressures, hence my 24 inch comment.

I use a saum with a 16 inch tube, one with a 20 inch and one with a 24 inch, and two rem mags at 24 inch.
If you want 3000 fps from a magnum with a short barrel you had better get comfortable with pressures higher than your inferred comfort zone.
