Yip its been asked many times for .308 and for the .223 but at what point does preformance start to drop off with .222rem????
14"-16" maybe???
akaroa is to blame for my pondering this one....

75/15/10 black powder matters
Can’t be far from a .223 surely? Mines 17.25” based on where the dpt magnum would sit and I’m darn happy with performance I chose the magnum to cover the pencil barrel all the way back to the fore end on the model 7 very short and handy accurate and enough snot to 300

If you have a few known points with the 222 to work out the velocity difference as a percentage I’m sure you would get very close guess wise

You can find a good used 22 C.F. barrel and cut a bit off each end and have a nice short single shot 222 Baikal
Plenty of donor barrels out there @Micky Duck just use your least favorite Baikal 12 gauge single
But make it a little longer than the 30-30 because 14" is a bit shorter than is ideal
Used an 8" AR for a few months that shot well at 300m, don't see why the 222 would be different.
Don't worry, it belonged to the crown.
Warm Barrels!
hmmmmm will ponder this some more...

Following with interest as I have a Fox with a flogged barrel that will require a new barrel when I come across one and I intend to run it shortish with a supressor
I had an 18 inch 1-9 twist barrel 222 on a BSA mini action for a while. I could push a 55 gr at 3055fps, unfortunately it didn’t like lighter projectiles. It shot the 70 gr Speer amazingly well albeit slowly.
