How tight should you crank up the screws etc on Mounts and Rings .
Does anyone use a torque screwdriver like me ?
If so how many inch/pounds ?

I torque mine, using a Wheeler "FAT" torque screwdriver.
I think from memory I torque them up to 20 in lbs each. I start with a low torque setting and them tighten them in increments of 5 inchpounds "diagonally" ... front right, back left, front left, back right .
I think with scopes, the less pressure the better, so go for the least amount of torque that will stop the scope from moving.
19 in/lbs is a general rule of thumb, about the torque require to flex the Allen and star keys that come with the rings.
you trying to tell me I've been overtorque'ing my rings all this time !!! ?? :ORLY:
explains why I havent been hitting anything !!!
I had been wondering :wtfsmilie: theres no possible way it could be my shooting ... :D
25"lbs for rings to scope screws and 40-50 mounts to rail. That's my stuff anyway. . . :-)

I have a half a life time(at least i hope its half !) of doing things up and undoing things experience and i have a pretty good "feel" for when something would strip or snap.
I go about 60 percent of my perceived failure point torque.
Haven't crushed anything yet or stripped it and haven't had any thing come loose or move.
I loctite mine with loctite blue , anyone else loctite ??
I don't
Nup, I use 515 under bases( I hate bases) tho.
I have just snapped a base screw off using a Fat wrench on one of my 300wm's, the screws had worked loose so I'll be loctiting them next time.
For talley sits 17 for The tops and 20-25 for the bases (oh that's inch pounds)
Kj
19-20 "lbs for the rings and 25 "lbs for the bases. I also use a small amount of Loctite Threadlocker# 222 on all screws.
Have done plenty without a torque wrench but prefer to use one as it keeps everything consistent.
I think it is important to torque anything to the correct manufacturers specs.
I do use torque wrench.
I don't use any Loctite.
The torque values for the mounts I run are 2.0 Nm for the rings & 3.5 Nm for the dovetail screws.
Tighten them as hard as possible, hang off the hex key until the head strips or you strip the thread.
Seriously, if you dont have a torquing tool then just use common sense. Snugged up firmly is good, useing loctight and doing up firmly is better. If you cant differenciate between firm and overtight you deserve to fuck your gear.
Apparantly nail polish is good as a loctite on the screw threads as well.
Bright pink still isn't acceptable though keen fella :P
