How would your optimised 6 rifle safe look.

You have to start from scratch, but you are only allowed x6 rifles in your safe to cover all possible hunting in NZ as well as a little target shooting. Which x6 calibers and rifle setup will you optimise your selection with and what will you use each one for?

I think the 1 dropped off in front of the 6.

    - 22LR - small game/pests
    - 223 - varmint style/goats
    - 243/6.5x55/7mm08/270/308 (*delete as appropriate and have a pissing contest about it) - goats/deer/pigs
    - Something for centrefire subsonic - personal preference!
    - Something for long range - out of my comfort zone here, so nothing further to add
    - 12g - I know you said rifles, but rifles aren't much use on ducks

As much as we love guns, I actually thought 6 was quite generous.

That depends on how many safes you have.

A better way of putting it:

Small things up close- 22LR, 12G,

    Small things further away- 223

Big things up close- 12G or 7.62X39

    Big things further away- .308

Big things far away- 7mm RUM or maybe a PRC

Very big things very close- .400 Jeffery

Very big things very very far away- 50BMG

I've converted a number of guns/returned E-Cats into school fees last 2-3 years so had given this some thought.

    22 - for possums etc (x2 currently)
223 - general farm gun (a gap now)
    280AI - a '1000y' rifle as I like LR shooting
    308 - lightweight bush/500y rifle
12g - semi for ducks and O/U for clays.

That pretty much covers me until the kids are 30 and leave home....some days I dare to hope it will be sooner than that.

    Can I just have 6 270s?
    270 is a harmonic divisor number[1]
270 is the fourth number that is divisible by its average integer divisor[2]
270 is a practical number, by the second definition
The sum of the coprime counts for the first 29 integers is 270
270 is a sparsely totient number, the largest integer with 72 as its totient
Given 6 elements, there are 270 square permutations[3]
    10! has 270 divisors
270 is the smallest positive integer that has divisors ending by digits 1, 2, …, 9.

    .22lr for little critters
.223 rem for slightly bigger critters, varminting, target shooting fun
6.5 Creedmore for general all round hunting setup
7mm SAUM with dial up scope for longer range hunting
12 Gauge semi for ducks, geese, varmints at night

Don't think i would need a 6th...maybe something for my young boys to use in the future (7mm-08 for deer or another .22LR but a semi auto)
Hunting is not a hobby.....its an addiction
