Howa 1500 223 Internal mag issue

    Hey Guys

A Mate has bought a howa 1500 .223 and is having feeding issues. I had a look today and the round slip back inside the internal mag to a point
where the bolt cannot move back enough to pick them up.

Is there meant to be a spacer inside the magazine to stop the rounds slipping backwards? The mag well seems big enough for larger calibers so am assuming there should be a restrictor.

If anyone has any ideas or photos that would be great. He is tempted to do a detachable mag conversion which would solve the problem if someone has one around.

    Tom

Tom you can cut the Howa 1500 SA bolt stop down to allow it to go back further.
    Easily done and on Youtube.

But yes, there should be a spacer in the internal factory drop plate mag.

I have a spare .223 mag spacer if required, as I run detachable mags in mine.

I have access to one so can take a picture of what it should look like if you want. There is a spacer at the back to hold the rounds further forward towards the front of the magazine.

Here's what it should look like from the bottom. The mag box is a different shape to the one that all the 308 family use. It has a spacer made from a bent piece of steel to fill the back section.

Yeas a above should be a stopper in there to shorten the mag for 223 204 and others it falls out easily when you take the rifle apart could easily put it back together without the spacer if you didn’t Realise it had fallen out
