    Howa 6.5 creedmoor magazine length

Anyone own or had a howa 6.5 creedmoor with a floor plate type mag and know what the maximum Cartridge overall length the mag will Accept
Can’t be bothered taking the stock off to measure the mag box unless i have to

Interesting @Flyblown I went and had a quick play just now after posting this
My rifle must have a long Throat as a empty case with a 130 burger just started in the neckand chamberd
    Comes out at 2.925”
My mag seems to be ok with 2.870”
They all load and feed ok at that length made 3 dummies at that length

Yup, pretty much exact same dimensions as mine. 2.927" with a 143gr ELD-X.

For the kind of shooting I do, rapid goat elimination, 2.870" was right on the limit of what I could reload quickly. For ease of fast top re-loading, 2.850" worked well. I probably should have said 2.870", not what I ended up choosing, sorry about that.

All good yeah 2.870 is a little fiddlely you have to put it through the ejection port on a wee angle so it clears
The action but it will fit in the mag

I could understand if you need to quick load though
This rifle will mostly be used for hunting where ideally you only need one shot
And the other 3 are just there incase
So shouldn’t need to load in a hurry
I have another howa in 6.5 Grendel with detachable magazine’s ill be using that for goat culls
    Nice quick reloads

I find that after 5 shots, and of course 5 dead goats tumbling down the face ha ha, the mob will be on the move and there's usually time to fully reload the internal mag while we wait for them to stop. If not then I'll just single load until they do, or we run out of goats. I had to practice fast reloading in the prone position a fair bit with dummy rounds, as at first I was making the same mistake - not pushing the round all the way back so the head contacted the rear of the action and the tip would clear the front. A top tip for extended prone shooting sessions is to have nice fat elbow pads on both arms.

What I love about this rifle is that you can put 15-20 shots down the tube in a fairly short amount of time, and whilst the suppressor is hot as, the barrel is still well within what I would call "comfortable holding" temperature, with no apparent shift in POI and still happily bowling them over past 600m. Last time out I shot side by side with a mate and his Sako 6.5x55 with the standard #2 contour (?) and of course he had to stop after a few shots while I just kept trucking along.

Actually, that might be the Tikka Super Varmint. Will let you know in due course if someone doesn’t beat me to it.

Funny how I can remember things like that, but not the numbers I wrote down 30 seconds ago. Does this mean something bad? Actually, don’t tell me.

    Thank you
Sounds like a gong session wouldn’t heat it up too much

I will unleash 8, 9, 10 shots on a mob of goats one after the other, few pauses in between of course to reload, or wait for the mob to stop running, range checking, whatever, and the barrel will be fairly warm, but never hot. Nowhere remotely close to how hot a sporter contour barrel would be. No discernible shift in POI which I’d be able to tell at 500m I reckon. For that reason alone its worth the extra weight. I accept that barrels are a consumable and don’t worry about it.
