    Howa Chassis Packages

Gidday, has anyone had much to do with the Howa chassis packages? Looking at something for my wife, she's not overly fussed on shooting animals but loves shooting longer range at steel and targets etc. Was looking at the heavy barrel 1500 versions in the Oryx chassis in 308 or dear I say it 6.5 (slowly coming round to the idea of this calibre) also means I get to use my reloading gear more than I currently do.

Seems like a reasonably good deal for under the $2000 mark. Is there anything else worth looking at?

    Cheers

i had a look at a howa 1500 c/w chassis, was way to short in the stock and plastic/flimsy so i bought a normal stocked one.

I have had no experience with them personally, But the Southern Cross Small Arms TSP-X Chassis looks like good value.

Gidday - a number of shops have a Howa/TSPX package for around the $1200/1300 mark just now, in 6.5 Crudmore and 308. If you can track one of these down they are very nice "range rifles", I feel the the TSPX chassis is one of the better ones out there, it just seems to work without a lot of fancy shit.

Yup, just spoke with Ken from 55six, only standard weight barrel though for that price. Is a special deal from the supplier.

Just buy a separate heavy barrelled action of whatever caliber and action (Howa or Rem) and a separate TSPX chassis and bolt them together.
    Still a good deal.

Just as a random thought, do any of the chassis support using the standard bottom metal/internal mag. I cannot stand external mags

How about the Bergara HMR? Its $1799 at most retailers, available in 308 & 6.5 Creedmore. The Bergara is a 24" barrel as compared to the Howa's 20".
