    Howa HS precision carbon barrel

Anyone have one or have any thoughts on them?

Mostly bush hunt but I am thinking about getting a bit more time on the tops this coming year and don't want to go over the top on cost to build.

    Thinking .308 with a Leupold VX 3 or 5.

im yet to see a factory howa that wont do under MOA new most doing far better is there a reason you want the carbon barrel?
they make everything harder shortening/suppressing wise and they want thousands just for the look/percieved improvements

no hate on them at all I think they are cook, but man are they costly and the factory howa barrels seem really great
I have friends using their barreled actions for their LR set ups and they are constantly impressing me with how far they reach out accuratly

weight wise I dont think they get you anything lighter either, so long story short why not a factory standard barreled action in one of ken hendersons stocks?
it will be lighter and a lot easier to sell later down the track

All good points @Bill999 I enquired about the Hi Tech stocks (now Kroseg) and was told that they won't have a 1500 stock until late 2023. Maybe I can find one 2nd hand?

As for carbon barrel it's just because I have never played with one before and tbh I just think they are kinda cool also But it's not a priority. Also I would likely leave it @24" and put a loud-ner on it.

Already have short and suppressed bush rifles. This is just brain storming at the moment but I would like to do something other than the standard Tikka route...not that I have anything against them.

got to agree with Bill on this...untill I loose 20kgs off my own body, getting a lighter rifle is a bit of a joke...AND I tried lightweight stock and found I shot better ,easier wit horigonal heavier one...not saying you cant shoot well with a light weight..but its a whole heap easier with a bit of weight.

Yeah I get that too, however I resemble a 6ft coat hanger so don't have much to shed and although I am capable of carrying much more than you would likely expect in packs (Ex Army) I have spent a fair amount of time and $ minimizing weight and volume in my kit over the years. With an incredibly f@cked left knee it allows me to get out when I potentially couldn't otherwise tolerate it.

All in good fun my friend
I do However echo some of the sentiments already mentioned in this thread if you want truly light get something fluted or with a light profile or both, then chop it to 20-22" and it'll be even lighter and still lethal out to a good whack even with a 308 with the right load.
I had a carbon barrel howa 223 for a while and yeah it shot amazing and could handle longer strings but.....a carbon wrapped barrel is only lighter if you intend to use a steel barrel of the same contour as the carbon wrapped one.
A light profiled (think kimber or howa lightweight) will be lighter than a carbon wrapped barrel.
The howa alpine was a superb example of a primo lightweight 308.

for the money you will end up spending building something custom..... and you are MAINLY a bush hunter...buy Sidneys take down BLR in .308 plurry tidy rifle AWESOME bush rifle, plenty good enough for tops shooting out to reasonable range if you use a rangefinder and you can break it down and put it in your pack for walk home after shooting animal... even better than a light rifle over shoulder is one tucked away safely in pack.....

Something like this would be way claasier than a howa

Mine is the ultralight that has the same stock but a fluted ultralight profile barrel.
My one weighs 3kg un suppressed which is pretty damn light, you could load the dirty 06 down to 308 performance and still have a bad ass longer range load as well.

Please note I'm not ragging on howas I own a mini and love it
