How's it going team talked to gunworks and they said they didn't rechambered tikka or howas as the barrels are too hard, does anyone know of any gunsmiths that will open out my howa 7mm08 to 284 in the south island l, cheers

Darn. Im up north.
Otherwise I'd say; Send it my way mate. My 284 reamer is throuted long though. Best suited for long action usage.
tikkas are notorious for this, ive seen a few fitting rechamebered 700 708 barrels as no smith wanted to touch a tikka, never heard howas having the same problem and have seen a few rechambered with original 708 barrel
if you have your own reamer it wont be a problem
I done a tikka 708 to 280rem with mitch maxberry with my reamer and it wasnt even mentioned
I know Dave Ward at Dovedale has done Tikkas before.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.
There's a howa on tardme atm

Pack out heavy
The internal mag length on the sa is to short for the 284 imo. I would just crank up some spicy handloads with the 162 eldm if you want some extra lr grunt/capability with the 7mm08
Good suggestion Nick. 7-08 Ackley is another option.
If you're doing a bushpig, just stick with the 7mm08 and run the 162gr.
My 18inch 7mm08 tikka long action has taken game at 602meters a very similar distance to my 18inch 284 bushpig with alot less powder.

Yup....
Alan carr will do it
Cheers for the info guys I've managed to get plenty of room in the mag and dummied up a round using a 154sst and it looks good, I've got a large quantity of h4831 to use with the 284 which is part of the reason I'm going to it plus I've got 150 shells and 200 154sst projectiles and a couple boxes of factory ammo, bought the gun for the build, also already have a 308 that I've been taking game out to 500yrds with just wanted to set something up with a little bit more down range energy
