3006,280ai? you must have a plan to redeem yourself?:D
Nothing wrong with .270 Greg, I have two of them and they have both dropped a lot of deer. Also have a .243 for the fallow up the back. Oh and VC, I do have a real rifle in 30 06.
I have a cuz who owns a .270 & he head shoots deer regularly at 200m with it & has been for 30 odd years.
He tells me its a piece of shit but the large jars of eye teeth hes collected with would suggest it works fine.
He now reckons his 8 mil is the only caliber worth owning .
Im a big 243 fan, but I share your dislike for the 270.
I had one and just needed to sell it.
nothing wrong with a 270 I just dont like them. but if the price is good ill still buy them for action value alone
I'm just surprised you managed to find one:wtfsmilie: being so useless and all. I'm sure waaaaaay more deer have fallen to a .308 over the last 80 years;)
wots not to like with the trusty 243?? accounted for a fare few deer in nz, been around for donkeys years, and is still around..... shame on you!
im a 243tard two how can you hate such a purrdy little round with a bite!:ninja:
308 all the way
you could argue every callibre under the sun!.im easy ill shoot any round thats infront of my finger! the only shit round is an empty one IMO.
No a shit round is one that goes "CLICK" and ive lost a couple of animals to them!
russian 308 rounds will do that:thumbsup:
No the Remington core-lock balistic are the only ones i havent missfired.
Hornby have been the worst for me.. new box .. 3 in a row.. tok them back and got a replacement pac and same again.
Had my gun checked which was all ok.
switched to noisler? (not sure on the spelling) and same problem!
gone back to remmington and never had it hapen scince
Sounds like you need Winchester in your life :)
I have one! a lever action 3030 i feel like the Malbro man with it over my shoulder. Im better off throwing stones at animals than shooting a 3030
Have avoided .270 ever since I fired my first centrefire, it being a .270 and me being 12years old, broken collarbone put me off for life. Think I'll stick with the 7mm Rem Mag and the .223..........good luck with your purchase tho.
nothing wrong with a 270 its just that it is one of those booring cartridges that just work, i meen who wants a gun that just works? :P

i hope to take it out for a goat cull shoot next weekend.

ahhhhh.....a left handed .270 - I see how you couldn't resist :D
If you use something other than A-maxs, ie a bullet that is actually designed for hunting with controlled expansion, then the fast little calibres (.270 and .243) kill far more efficiently and don't damage nearly as much meat...
something is wrong with that browning. the ejection hole is on the wrong side
The deck could do with some oil too !
Just get a 260 it fills the gap between 243 and 270
.264WinMag looks cool
Imo the 270 kicks just like a 7mm rem mag so mite aswell
Go with the better performer

Not to sound too much like a noob here but...
What exactly is wrong with the .270?
Im relatively new to hunting and got a rough but solid .270 for my 1st rifle.
Most of the people i know with rifles have .270s
And the only times i've been let down by the rifle/calibre is has been through my own fault (GOD DAMN BUCK FEVER!)
I agree with VC. There is nothing wrong with .270. I have two of them and have found them to be a good calibre that is capable of doing the job on any game animals in this country. That said, the calibre is probably a bit too big on smaller game like fallow deer etc.
I Agree with you Bill999 .270 and .243 are all good strong reliable and cheap rifles. I have been shooting Samber with .243 latley well placed shots no problems at all.
Graham Henry thought the 270 was perfect, said "Why would he change to anything else when you're already married to Miss Universe ?"
The old Forest Service official calibers were .222, 308 and 270.
AAhhhh 270 WSM Suppressed like shooting a 22 but oh so fast and flat ... Love it
