So basically it comes down to a wider stance that makes it more stable?
Yeah, pretty close really. The wider stance helps with the stability (look at F Class bipods) and fundamentally having a lower centre of gravity (i.e. barrel is under the leg intersection point) will also make it more stable.
I found the TRG bipod to be better for me than the harris I am using. I found it marginally more stable, easier to load and easier to maintain my natural point of aim and not skew the rifle. Will it make me a measurably better or more accurate shooter? Hard to say, I think it will by a very small margin - with the competition shooting I do this is enough for me. And if nothing else the quick attach method will be less hassle in the competition. Am I worried that it weights a little more? No, my long range competition rifle is already 13lb and with the bipod quick attach method the bipod won't live on the gun like my current harris one does.
The only drawback I can see is that I will need to modify two of my beloved Sakos to fit the spigot mounts.
You cannot miss fast enough!
