    Ideal .308 barrel length.

Im about to get the chop and am unsure how far to go, as i cant go back.

The vortex podcast had one at 16"? And held accuracy and velocity well.

What's the consensus of the people?

    I've done 16 and 18 with a 308, both suppressed
18 is more pleasant to shoot.

I have a 16in, it shoots well but is a bit "barky" it doesn't suppress as well as my 20in.

For close bush chop it all, for longer ranges leave it alone

18 inch barel was good on deer to 600 - 650 yards with factory 168eldm ammo

Edit: in the right weather conditions and practiced at those ranges

Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out

Yeah I dont want to shoot out beyond 650y. I want it to be short enough to climb scrubby hills and long enough to be nice to shoot.

650m is a long way out, I'd be going 20".
An over barrel suppressor will keep the overall length to 24" which is fine.

16" is over kill unless you are hunting thick thick bush.

Yeah, 650y is just a random figure to be safe. I doubt i get out to 400m

There is no need for anything longer than 20" for a 308. 16" only for a dedicated, or at least mostly, bush rifle. Between 18 and 20 is probably the sweet spot. Mine is 19" used as an alrounder. I hunt mostly in the Bush and never found it too long with a Hardy surpressor on.

Not random. Just what I have shot deer out to with the 168 and 308 with a 18 inch barel.
    Very specific really
