    To be honest they all tend to shoot much the same. Go lean over the counter at your local and get them to let you have a play with whatever they have. Shoulder them, work the actions, check the ergonomics, ... Remember which one it was you were reluctant to hand back because it felt good and buy one second hand.

    Sock drawer doesn't sound very secure. Need to think where the Mrs NEVER accesses.

    Gadget speaks sense (as usual), see what fits you and what you like the feel of.

    I haven't tried all the options but have used a few and handled others, I would (and did) go for a Savage in that price range myself.

    Save up for a Kimber Montana 708 and never look back.
    I had to layby mine but its the rifle I will keep when they tell us we can only have one.

    Keep saving and get something really nice.
