If you were only allowed 1 rifle...

    Hey guys

Fun poll just out of interest!

If you were limited to only having 1 rifle for everything, what calibre would it be?

    Two criteria:
    1) for NZ hunting only

    2) for worldwide hunting

    My choiced would be:

NZ - 260 Rem, can be used in the bush and to reasonably long ranges with good selection of projectiles and big enough to take most NZ game, scrub bulls and possibly Sambar would be the exceptions, was a toss up between this and the .308, 260 won due to slightly better BC pills and shooting bunnies with a .308 would be ridiculous!

Worldwide - .375 H&H, can take the biggest game (alhough slightly marginal on elephant) and can be loaded light for bush or with 350gr pills for reasonably long range, I'll ignore the bunny point on this one!

    Interested to hear your thoughts!

Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out

Nice . Probably 20 inch bbl 7mm saum or wsm. The amax for anything in nz the 150 barnes for everything else or 160 trophy bonded bear claw. i dont see myself ever doing the dangerous game thing so thnk that would bout cover it.

Yep, but technically more than one rifle if you switching barrels!

Id have what i have now but s/s like i wanted but wouldn't wait six months .
308 Sako walnut stock in ss.

World wide probably the same, i don't think i would feel under powered on big game with the right projectiles tho i wouldn't ever hunt elephant. Couldn't bring myself to shoot one.

Maybe I should have worded it "what in your opinion is the best all round rifle calibre?"

I would stay with my 9.3x62 for everything, I like shooting it more than the CZ 550 Safari Classic .375 H&H mag. With only one gun I would become very very good with the old Husky.
