Thread: importing barrels

I realise this is probably too hard, but whilst I was mucking about I found some rifle barrels from an American supplier for wicked cheap.
Short chambered 7x57 for 87 uS, and 35 whelen for 70us. Not too shabby for new ones even if they are budget.
Not counting the exchange rates, what's the likelihood of a cheap barrel once its landed?
How much for duty, cops have to say its ok as well before it even starts yeah?
Haven't even emailed them to see if the will export, (got turned down by a US stock maker on the weekend dammit!), so wouldn't get my hopes up too much.
green mountain even has a short chambered 300wsm for 57US. so that's another option but definitely didn't want to go that way.

Barrels require US export permits unsure of cost but can take 40days or more. Stocks don't at all and scopes need a permit but its free.

the us state department export permit cost me us$250 last time I got one, it cost the same if your doing one item or a contaner load

Hi I imported my Desert Tec barrel / bolt kits pretty straight forward although the guy sending them did the USA side you need someone who's willing to do the paperwork I assume the fees for export were in the purchase price.

UK exports are pretty straight forward as well again you need some one in UK prepared to apply for the free personal export license in UK.

In either case you need to fill in an end users declaration sign it and send it to the person applying for the export license again pretty straightforward.

For a personal import if its over $ 400.00 inclusive of shipping you pay something like $ 40.00 administration fee and then 15% GST.

As a personal export of any goods from Europe you do not pay up to 20% VAT UK (GST) so a 20% saving right there.

This is ACat not Ecat gear and a rough overview.

Cheers guys. probably get a stock before the barrel too. Mind you those barrels I found were very cheap but getting ahead of myself on those.

Does the export permit need to be done person to person as like a gift or only for business to customer? I have an offer from a forum member to stage the posting pending proper paperwork.
Mind you some of the stocks I've seen are under a hundy anyway.

Thread revive. If I order a whole load of bits that its. Sum of value is over 100 us dollars is it export permit required or just individual parts under 100 bucks.

Cos there's always a lot of ar15 gear at seemingly good prices.

Total value of "gun parts" if over US$100 will require a US export license.

Bugger. Doesn't seem worth it now. Especially when the individual bits have to be shipped separately. Ah well. Second hand and Ken it is.

That's true. I was going to go buy an aero precision lower for 72 usd. Then the lower parts for 60 USD from dpms. Hand guards etc from Brownells. And a bolt carrier group from stretch of he still has any.

Would be keen on a barrel if you ended up importing a far few.

I'm importing projectiles from the US as I use a lot and supply is better from US than NZ retailers.
I had to get an export permit (done by my supplier, paid for by me) which last 3 years.
These have to be for my own personal use.
I estimated how much I'd use over that period (actually 4 years) and that went on the form.
Total value USD 15K if I purchase everything - which I don't have to do.

I normally bring in 2 shipments a month at just under NZ$400.

My aim is to have a years worth of components on my shelf at any one time.
