    Importing Firearms

I know there's some posts already about importing firearm parts from the USA, but I'm trying to find some info about importing firearms.

Specifically I'd like to get hold of a S&W M&P22 pistol, but I haven't found any for sale in NZ (if you can point me to somewhere that sells them, I would be much obliged).

So I was thinking, if they're pretty cheap in the states, why not just import one?

Does anyone know much about the costs and difficulty of importing a pistol to NZ? I know about the NZ import side of things but are there any significant hidden costs or annoying import technicalities I'm not seeing? Is the cost of having firearms shipped over here ridiculously high?

Unless it's an expensive item, it ain't worth the exporters commission and the export licence fees for a one-off. Last time I brought in a complete firearm, the export licence alone was US$200 and that's non-refundable.

Pretty sure I've seen M&P's in the Bullshooter "For Sale" or dealer ads.
10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.
