A 1911 frame is a legally a firearm since it's the serialed part I believe. Shouldn't be too difficult if you can get someone to export it, just ask for a permit.

Oh ok, so that means taking it to the police and going down the path of registering a full pistol?

    1. Get NZ Import Permit
    2. Order from Brownells
    3. Send off Reqd paperwork (incl DSP-83)
    4. Wait.
    5. Get ripped off on service fees etc by customs (I don't mind paying just seems a bit of a gouge)
    6. Send customs your permit
    7. Wait
    8. Parts arrive, Happiness.

If I'm correct in thinking it's the serialed part, then yes

Take it along with the import permit (which customs will return to you) to your local Arms Officer. He will transfer it to your licence

Weird. What if you don't do that step? You suddenly have an unregistered 1911 frame?

Customs file import returns with the Police. You have 30 days to show the imported restricted part to your AO. If they haven't seen it in 30 day's they'll catch up with you.

    Ray.
10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.
