I personally really like H&K ar mags-no US export issues as well
Even with the $60 fee pmags work out to be about the same price as alternatives.
The problem with Rainier is they ship Fedex and Fedex suuuuuuuuuckkkkk in New Zealand. They lost not one but two import permits I sent them on different occasions.
Ok on a slightly off topic note. I bought a hand guard from brownells ($80) and some dies ($45) they are in customs "held for clearance" do i need to do anything?
What is the handguard for?

Go see your arms officer for an import permit now because you're going to get a letter from customs inside the next 2 weeks or so asking for it. Specify that it's for an "A category" rifle.
They will be looking for a permit for the handguard (its its A cat they will still ask) You local AO might be able to help with a permit even though technically its not required for an A cat Customs like paperwork to cover their butt :(Quote:

If it's for an A cat rifle, all customs need is an email from your AO to confirm this. Faster than posting a permit.

just a question, all this fuss about exporting magazines out of the states has anyone looked at getting them from Israel as they make there own and use tavors which take em ? i'm sure they wouldn't have such harsh export permit requirements

I've just check online at Brownells and it seems MAGPAL Pmag's are back on the menu. Looks like they have taken off the international Restrictions. sounds like a WooHoo coming. :D

Does this seem right? Hand ins for magazines, along with a havard-grade essay on why I want to import? Considering #yolo'ing it and filling out the form and handing it in as is anyways. Is there information worth pointing him towards? Don’t order anything until you get the Import Permit - if it turns up in NZ and you don’t have the permit, the goodies will be confiscated by Customs and you wont get them back.
You will have to provide very good reasons why you want to import any articles which are currently available in NZ. Cost is not a suitable reason.
One thing that you can do to assist your application is to offer 'hand-ins' of old/other MSSA high capacity magazines. Please - no Steyr mags from the Army!

Customs dont know or understand firearms (so says my AO). So technically/legally if its for a bolt action you dont need an import permit unless maybe its the receiver and a bolt. For semi-autos Customs get very nervous, get it wrong and its the re-employment line, hence anything they are not sure of will be stopped. Make your life easy, anything that is covered under an A/E specifics get a permit or at least run it buy the AO so if you walk in looking sheepish as Customs stopped it he wouldnt get too annoyed.Quote:

I think a lot of folks over think permits, or they go into it on a combative mindset and rub there ao up wrong. Or maybe I'm just lucky to have a good ao lol
Yeah I'm really trying to avoid butting heads with my AO as he has been very helpful and is generally an all-round nice guy. He actually used to work with my wife at Placemakers too.
I am yet to use this path, however Brownells state that if no import permit is required you are to send them a certified letter stating this.
This just means a statutory declaration signed in front of a JP.

Ok so i got my e endorsement on Thursday, now i'd like to order some 30's from the states, now i email my local a/o i'd like to order some 30's for competition a valid reason ? as i read somewhere they might say no due to sellers selling them here etc ? even tho i am not in a club yet as currently focusing on deerstalkers hunts course at this time so will be down the track
Will let you know, applied for import license last week with "Magazines for open class service rifle AR15" in the reason for import box and no hand ins.
Quick dig to say I'm still waiting on hearing something regarding my permit. I'm assuming it is mailed to me?
