Not sure if I will get them either - only if I can match up with high end optics to subsidize shipping cost etc.
I gave up buy on spec - as I can never work guys out or get into their heads to what is desirable at the time :-)
Bought in Steiner - S&B - Docter etc and get lumbered with them
These I know would be a different story due to the price - but unless you bring in bulk - shipping cost pushes it out of competitiveness

Are you going to write a review after you've tried it out?

Ive had a few yarns with some people in customs. As a rough rule. it was, if gst=less than $50nz it would be waived.

    No, as explained by Flyblown.

The old rule was if gst plus duty was less than $60, it was waived.
A lot of stuff is duty free so only gst was relevant. A gst of $60 equals a value $400. That is where the $400 came from.

    New rule read here https://www.customs.govt.nz/personal...uty-estimator/

Yes - its been changed then
But - they changed it due to International Sellers are now meant to ADD NZ GST to the item being bought that will be exported to NZ
Also - if its deemed "Commercial" for resale in NZ then the 1000$ is not a base

Only if they trade greater than 60k per year and can be coerced by IRD to become gst registered aND then collect on ehalf of the IRD..
The likes of Amazon and the big online clothing outlets collect.
It a joke really because the bricks and mortar shops here argued for a level playing field.
For the likes of us if buying under the 1k things are better than before.

And yes, the link refers to personal purchases.

Yep, I've stopped buying from the shops that put the GST/Duty on.

Looked at CameralandNY and they have a big red note saying PLEASE NOTE: We DO NOT export rifle scopes outside of the United States of America - Thar did you just take a punt and get lucky?

Somewhat related to this topic has anyone found a post forwarding service that is willing to send optics and rangefinders etc? have seen some good deals on eBay but typically sellers won't send out of USA.

You have to be over 72... Sort of like a Gold Card Plus benefit

Nah, red flags mean nothing - just shop front stuff. Just make the order and take the punt. If they accept it well and good. The worse that can happen is that your visa payment will rejected. Thats what I do.
As you go through the ordering process if NZ comes up as a country of origin in their check list instead of just the US you are likely ok.

People fuss too much and over think this stuff.

Thats a typical govt racket. Introduce something with the guise "it is better for you" when is is just a load of horseshit and only results in govt taking more money off you. They knew it wasnt going to help local businesses, they also knew people wernt going to stop importing goods (that you generally cant even get here), they just wanted to take a piece of the pie for themselves.

@Jake77 I just went back through the ordering process.
When it comes to country of origin they list "New Zealand, Australia, and Canada" - so they are the countries they will export to. (Cameraland NY). If you want the best deals watch for "open box specials". They are ex demos. I have bought several over the years and they have all been perfect at a good discount. Mostly equalling the freight and still with factory warranty.
