Thread: Impotent Howa bolt - ejector

Hey team hopefully there’s an easy explanation from someone on how to get my Howa ejector to operate with a bit more ooomph.

This bolt was taken apart and cerakoted. I’ve since been having trouble ejecting brass from the rifle. It extracts fine but at the last stage lacks enough force to have the case fully clear out of the ejection port.

Does this [ejector? Plunger?] look normal or is it sitting too low? Is it possible to replace a spring or something easily?

is it now binding due to being ceracoted possibly some graphite powder could be enough to polish it back to life

I suspect its paint on the ejector pin and maybe down the bore where it fits, knock the cross pin out (be careful not to let the spring shot it across the room), give it a clean up, removing paint (Ceracote) then a drip of oil and you should be good.....your profile just says North Island but if you up near Whangarei, give me a shout if you get stuck.

Same as last post. Have springs here if it is rusted or broken.

Thanks all. Took it apart and the inside has been cerakoted as well. Polished it up with wet and dry sandpaper and some light oil to finish.

She’s working better. Still not throwing the cases out but good enough to reliably feed a second follow up without worrying.

Top tip when disassembling. Secure an empty brass case onto the bolt face. This allows you to remove the retaining pin and prevents the spring flying out.
