    Interesting Gun Safe Vulnerability Article

Link - In.Security Home » DETAILED REPORT ON THE INSECURITY OF GUN SAFES MADE BY LEADING U.S. MANUFACTURERS: STACK-ON, GUNVAULT, AND BULLDOG

Was browsing the net and came across a couple of articles by this guy where he exposes vulnerabilties in commercial security products, in this case gun safes, showing how even a kid can open them relatively easily.

The article is a bit old but I'm not sure 1) whether any of you guys have read it/ the abbreviated version published in Forbes and 2) whether this might be of interest to any of you people with special endorsements who might use any of these products or different brand variants

In another article - The Lockdown: Gun locks - unsafe at any caliber - he shows how rubbish those firearm cable locks are

Hmm, looks like another case of 'you get what you pay for'.
Having said that, nothing will keep out a determined thief

To be honest I don't expect my A-Cat safe will keep out a determined thief.
It will keep out the casual thief as will the locked garage that it is in.

I store bolts separately to further frustrate a thief.

Question probably is "Is legal compliance sufficient?"

Interesting article that made me check the two safes in the house that had the same electronic panels. I was able to open them without any tools other than my hand in under 5 seconds. Both went back to Bunnings for a full refund. A quick demonstration at the refund counter was all that was needed.
Velocity is thrilling, but diameter does the real killing.

It's quite well known that certain brands of Gun safe can also have their "Entry Key Pad" "Factory Reset" buy simply sliding a credit card up inside the hinged side of the door to activate the "Hidden" reset button.

Factory resets usually reset the code to 0000 allowing easy access to anyone that knows this.

I'm sure I seen this on youtube along with how to reset or trick coke machines into giving up their products by passing the usual payment method and such a few years ago.

    Cheers
    Pete

I guess from one view point compliance is sufficient, but as responsible owners of firearms we should probably be aiming to exceed the minimum requirements for storage.
