    Jungle Carbine 303 barrel replacement.

Looking at preemptively sourcing a new barrel for my Jungle Carbine as it is starting to get a bit worn.

Is there such a thing as a new one, or do I need to get a new/tidier No4 barrel and have it smithed up to match a No5 ?

I Haven’t really considered that No5s are pretty hard sourced, so new wear components are probably a no go, we are lucky to have them in numbers !

It's a pity the criterion barrels aren't 1) priced the equivalent to the US and 2) more available

I missed out on one not to long ago, I thought at 1800 it would’ve sat on the shelf for more than a week.

Feels bad just to rinse up a whole No4 just for the barrel, unless a sporter with a really good bore turns up, but I’m not sure those two go in the same sentence these days.

There are new barrels being made that any half competent gunsmith can fit.

It will cost you more than the value of a new rifle. Unless it has significant sentimental value you might be better to trade up.

    Greetings,
One option is the .30-40 Krag. It was a popular option using take out target barrels at one time. You can reform .303 cases to the Krag although they do come up a bit short, This only works for handloaders though.

Certainly is sentimental, from what I’m gathering it will be easiest to grab a tidy No4 and nick the barrel, as there’s a few local ones around the 900$ mark.
