I would also say get the barrel cut down or recut. I recently brought a JW23 (Magnum version) and when I went to get a new supressor on it I found out the bore was off centre by 1.5mm.

The gunsmith cut it back and it is not back down to 0.5mm still shoots well.

Would also try some different ammo as some 22's can be picky.

just remember the old Toz bolt actions, i have never seen one with an on centre bore but most of them shoot damn well.

ive had a few jws my opinion is yep they are just chinese shit youd be better off bying something second hand even the early savages and lakefields bsas etc are better than those shitters never had one that shoots amazingly a couple of them the safety used to fall out of the bolt ive tried them quite a few times but always come back to the same conclusion

The crown is pretty munted and the bore doesn't look to be centered. Bolt looked like it'd already had some use so I'm wondering if it's a spare parts rifle?

Contrary to the positive posts about JW15 accuracy it patterns like a shotgun at 40 meters with Winchester 40gr subsonics, that's 8cm (3 inch) across with 5 shots.


I also noticed one of the cases had cracked, is that normal for a 22lr?


This is just a bit of a heads up for anyone buying one of these, I'd recommend getting a 2nd hand one that someone has already proven or at least view in person before buying a 'brand new' one. There's a lot of positive reviews for the JW15 so this one obviously doesn't fit the mould.

So is there any saving this rifle? I've already cut out the barrel channel to free float it, and grinded away half the bolt handle to fit a larger scope on so I don't think Gun City would take it back at this stage..

Agree with Spoon....brought one for my son to use....a total piece of shite.
I know that a lot of people rave on about how great they are....not from my experience.

On that note I'm still looking for a Marlin 795SS, I was too slow to get the other ones I was offered

My jw15 is an "outdoor arms" as well, shoots like shit, 4-5" at 50m. Every thing else about it is good. I just use to teach the kids, set up cans etc at about 20m it's all good.

Intersting about the free float thing mudgripz, wonder if I can jam material of some sort between the barrel and stock to give it a pressure point again?

For a pressure point use a piece of tyre tube and starting at the tip of the fore end slide it back while shooting groups to see if there is a sweet spot.
My Syn stocked full over barrel suppressor model was missing the middle bedding pillar, leaving the action completely unsupported in the centre and bent by screw pressure. I made one with the outer from a Dynabolt - has a split so it can be opened to grip the pillar recess

Common in older barrels to have off-centre bores. The art of drilling a straight deep concentric hole is deep magic.

Many barrels are manufactured with bores significantly off centre. The barrel can then be put in a lathe between centres and the exterior cut evenly around the bore. But in a cheap gun such cosmetic concerns matter little, unless you want to put a nice tight suppressor on like from Waitaki Engineering. Explains why my JW15's stock suppressor looks like it will let a 9mm through without baffle strike: safe tolerances for eccentric but otherwise accurate bores.

I bought a 16inch one from H&S just before shut down to shoot puks 7 rabbits on my mother inlaws orchard but Found safety didn't work & was very very tight when trying to close on a live round. It'll be going back once the shops open. I was given an earlier model JW15s with alongish barrel & Parker Hale steel suppressor years ago & it shot really well (magpies @ over 115yds) but ended up selling it as I already had a Rugar 1022. The last couple of JW15's have been rubbish.

Mine shoots as good as my Brno once I chopped and suppressed it then bedded the action,tried full length bedding the barrel but it shot worse,once free floated it is accurate,front action screw torque made a difference as well,the bore is way off centre too..

20 odd years back i briefly owned a norinco 22mag, it was pretty good but in the end i sold it to build a super-ruger (damn i miss that gun).
one thing people fail to realise is that especially when it comes to chinese imported anything (with a few exceptions) that make and model does not equal the same manufacturer. for instance your hunters element socks will not be made in the same factory as your hunters element jacket. your norinco jw15 may not come out of the same factory as your mates one.
and when it comes to electronic gear its just the same, what looks the same externally can be completely different internally.
now having said that there are some truly beautiful pieces of manufacturing coming from china it all depends on quality control. to give you an instance "opera" audio amplifiers (if you like the tube sound) are incredibly well made, mercedes manufacture their A class in taiwan and if you are into mercs you wouldnt fault them.
now heres the kicker, when someone orders a bulk order from china (say 10,000 rifles) the manufacturer will start building them then run out of time and sub-contract another company to finish the order so as not to avoid late penalty fees and this is whee it all falls to hell

I've had 3.
First one I kept, older gun, worn in. barrel cut to 18inches. Shoots 40gr sweet.
Second one meant for my son was a dog. bought from gunshitty on a $1 reserve auction. could barely operate the bolt. Stiff as. shot crap too. @mudgripz looked at it and I we agreed to take it back to GC. They swapped it no questions asked.
Third one shot great, wooden stock looked great too.
I sold it later when I needed money. Still have the old model. its my go to bunny blaster. Maybe 5000rds through it and it just keeps getting better.
Had some issues of failure to extract, broke the hook off the extractor. Got a new extractor but got bad again.
Got a ejector/extractor spring replaced. Runs sweet again.

That is 100% correct. Difficult to understand how they come from the same factory!
