    JW15 rear sight removal

Helping a friend fit his JW15 - cheek weld, scope weld etc. We need to move the scope forwards for correct eye relief and this is not possible because of the barrel-mounted rear sight but have hit difficulties getting it off.

We tried lightly tapping it with hammer and tap both in forward and backwards direction, but not shift. Now soaking the sight in CRC-556 overnight. Any useful hints? Like does it matter if it is drifted forwards or backwards to get it off?

The sight type is like this one, which I understand it sits on a small dovetail:

And Happy New Year to you and yours.

Duh, just studied this image I posted and ... the bloody dovetail runs side to side, not front to back!!!

She came off easily, left to right (didn't try the other way). We used the corner of a piece of aluminium box section as a punch.

Got his JW15 set up nicely, right scope eye relief, neoprene layers built up as a cheek riser to align his eyes perfectly with scope, bore sighted then properly sighted in for his CCI subs, and a small hold-over / hold-under card written out for out to 50m. He'll have fun.

Now, if you dont want to lose the rear sight, simply turn it around and replace it backwards, so the "V" is towards the muzzle. And you can sight it in like that as well and use it if needed.
