Re take down, as far as I'm concerned it's no different to the fact a standard howa mini is under 762 if you use tools to take the stock off. Same thing with more or less every rifle out there that only has one or 2 action screws and can still be fired as a barreled action out of the stock...

if it was set up to fold to the bolt side one would have to lift the bolt to get clearance
thus rendering a no fire option . Plus it would be slimmer in overall as the bolt over the fold/stock
rather than the fold on the other side plus action plus ,plus the bolt sticking out

Well the deer were elusive this very wet weekend but used the opportunity to test the Targex 120gr HP rebated boat tail hunter projectiles on soft targets.
Also tested a few Nosler 90gr balistic tipped Varmageddons which also grouped very well at 100m.
A lot of rain fell which also confirmed how durable the choice of materials and finishes on the Elude are. The rifle was wet for days with not a spot of corrosion to be seen.
I highly recomend the lighter and corrosion resistant Titanium screw kit if you run your Elude's in the wet weather.

Yeah man. I hear ya. My speeds are a bit shit. I'd love to trim it down though . I'm wondering if I need to stick around that 14 inch mark to keep the boogy up to an acceptable level...then I see the boys flattening shit with really short 10 inch barrels.
It's more about bullet choice and shot placement. A good light jacket match or varmint bullet handloaded to the max your barrel will allow and it will kill just fine. 130gr is a bit on the heavy side for Grendel, stick to the 120gr or lighter in a short barrel. I tend to only head shoot animals these days anyway so with the right shot placement it can be done with a .22lr.
A 120gr match bullet at 2200fps just about takes a goats head clean off.. I have plenty of pics to confirm this but probably not the best place to share them..
Grew a pair of stones and took the leap. 12.5 Grendel for the win. Dave at Shooter Ready has been exceptional. Super easy to deal with so far. I'm fizzing to get this back and out in the boonies for a wander. Just gotta sneak it into the safe without the wife clicking....better to ask forgiveness than permission 😉🤣Quote:

Power Pro Varmit in my 6.5 TCU pushes 123gn sst at 2571fps average (24 inch barrel) and no pressure signs.
Anyone been trialing the 100gr ELDm in the Grendel? Hoping it'll be near that Goldilocks weight to keep a bit of speed up. Anyone tried them with more traditional shoulder/hilar shots as opposed to head shots? I've had a couple of animals go for a wander with the 123 eldm. Shot placement wasn't perfect but still in the engine room. Just fishing for a projectile to use now I've docked the barrel back a bit
Got the Elude back yesterday from Shooter Ready. Very impressed with the quality of workmanship. Beautifully made. What's kinda set ups you boys running for slings? Question two what y'all using as a decent lightweight bipod? Was looking at the magpul mlok ones...seen them in the flesh and it was ok as long as you don't need to pivot or pan the rifle much
Paired mine up with a Backlanz, keeping to the theme of NZ made. Sling is more a rudamentry strap through the slots and the butt.

Got mine back from being glammed up with some cerakote, was starting to get some light rust on the stain-a-little-less barrel and action. Usually has a MTN bipod mounted or in the pocket, and if I use this rifle I generally dont bother with a sling, it's so light that it is hardly a pain to hand carry, and I don't have to worry about getting hung up in the bush
Hey all from the states. Any chance of getting the Elude over here? There aren't many chassis options for the Howa mini over here.
I've just got an Elude chassis and a Stainless Howa mini 223, setting up for pest shooting and for my son to be able to use. Are these short barreled ones in 223 anyone? If so how short can you go without loosing toouch accuracy and speed? It's a 1-8 twist, don't intend on using heavy projectile but just thought if could shorten barrel, it's very front heavy currently with suppressor

You don't lose accuracy with a short barrel, if anything it gets better due to less heat extortion and whip with these ight barrels. You will lose velocity, on average it's -25fps per inch removed. You can gain a bit back with good hand loads and terminal performance is retained by using lighter jacketed varmint/match bullets.
The Howa's 1:8" twist is good up to 80gr projectiles, my personal fav in them is the Sierra 77gr and 69gr TMK.
With 55gr projectiles in a 12.5" barrel you can still get 2700 to 3000fps with the right load.

16" grendel replaced bag rider with qd stud. going to build a carbon plate around the triangle hole in the stock to accept the qd stud then put the bag rider back on
great pack weight rifle
Im trialing a new butt design with inbuilt QD pocket and threaded hole that would be able to attach a slimg stud or a QD stud. Hopefully the aluminum can handle the QD with otu wearing out
