How much effort, and conversely cost, would it incur to have a custom handle made?

Will post pictures when possible.
Handle scales are roughly 17cm long, pinned onto the handle.
The tang starts at 5.5mm and tapers down to 3.6mm width.
i have the perfect piece of wood for it, south american hardwood, it files and oils up great.

'Relatively large kitchen knife' - needs big hand filling handle ?. I have some cast antler bases that would do the trick, have coronet and Burr and thick enough to fill a hand. Just slot for the tang and Gorilla Grip it on. No need to split into scales
17cm? That's a big ass handle. Throw a picture up man.
Throwing new scales on is generally a pretty easy project. Need some 2 part epoxy, some pins (if you want can skip this, quality modern epoxy is strong as fark) material for scales, some files and sandpaper.

This knife has been in the family for more than 40 years.
My Granddad used it to chop up shark in SA, and I have been using it on anything edible so far.
The spine of the blade has some ancient gouges, presumably where some "kinetic manipulation"was applied to chop through particularly hardy sharks...
It will forever be remembered as "shark knife"
that should be piece of cake for most fellas with basic tools....cut out basic shape and split neatly in two with a saw,smooth the faces flat and Bobs your Aunties hubby.
Could do with a good sharpen on a stone while the scales are off too :P
