    Lack of adjustment

So I have recently got and used a couple of clicky scopes and I have come across a problem. On both setups I seem to only have a minimal amount of adjustment left in my scopes to allow for drop after zeroing at 100 yards.
Rifle #1 is a Husquvana with a Weaver 3-15 Super Slam. Burris rings and Weaver GS bases. Now from zero I only have about 14 MOA up left to play with, this only gets me out to 600yards-ish. The scope has ~56MOA in total.

Rifle #2 is a new Model 70 Winchester with a Leupold VX3 3.5-10 with CDS. Leupold rings and Weaver GS bases. From zero (@100yards) I only have 9 MOA left to me from an available 50 odd.

Now I know you may end up with the use of less than half the total adjustment but this is annoying.

    AM I missing something here?

    Can anyone offer some solutions?

Do those Burris rings with inserts work? I would guess they are hard to centre correctly?
