Here's some great news for folk who enjoy wearing gimp suits and being whipped!
For the rest of us, it's a bit of a shitter.
We now need a export permit from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to take or send out of the country a rifle scope, regardless of whether it is a 4x20 air rifle scope, or a thermal scope. This includes sending as a gift, carrying out on your own person, or sending for repair. This rule also includes (though I need to look into this more closely) other optical equipment. This is because these items have been added to the NZ Strategic Goods list.
Before you all start wailing and bashing yourselves over the head with heavy objects, there is more to come....
Since December 2012 (now!), a police import permit is required for ALL firearm parts (except parts for underwater spearguns and humane killers).
AND, you now need a Police import permit to import any air rifle or pistol, or soft airgun.
What a load of bollocks, and as tax payers we are expected to lie down and take it.

Happy New Year all.
