    Leica Geovid HD's and HD-B's

    Hi lads,
I'm wanting to get a pair of Leica's, tossing up between two at the moment, leaning towards the HD-B's if I can get them for a good price. My question is what is the go with the Leica warranty? I read somewhere it's five years, that seems like a very small commitment for something that costs so much, can anyone clarify this for me?

    Cheers,

    BH

well not that I dont value peoples opinions here but I decided to contact Leica directly. So its five years on the glass and two years on the rangefinder, personally disappointed with that. I thought if you're handing over $3500 they'd offer something a bit better than that. Swaro EL's have the same rangefinder warranty but 10 years on the glass, given that for some stupid reason though they dont range under 30m they're useless as bow hunting aids for me....

    tough one

My HDs I bought second hand (off The Claw) then proceeded to drop down a cliff went to Leica for repair. To my amazement I received a new pair in the post no charges other than post and handling with the local NZ agent. Leica are tops in my book and if it doesn't fail in 5 years I can't see it failing ever. I would never hesitate to buy Leica again.
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

My geovids are going in for warranty claim in a few months and have it on good authority they will be covered. They are more than 5 years old

The Leica bloke I spoke to said they have a good will unofficial warranty system after the five years. If its genuinely the gears fault that damage has occurred they'll still fix it, if its wear and tear bad luck!

I guess the other question is...is there enough justification to get the HD-B's over the HD's? I'm leaning towards yes, especially for the extra ranging and ability to have ballistics info in there that spits out MOA instead of distance which would be handy for the scope I have in mind.

just be aware that it gives you an output of 'clicks' based on 1/4 moa , not an moa output itself

Yeah.. I might be bringing this thread back to life...
But about to drop a lot of $ on some hd-b's and have the concern over warranty vs price...

Anyone had any defective hd/hd-bs or warranty issues?
    Cheers

Haven't had any warranty "ISSUES" yet, but have bought a pair of brand new 'defective' ones, that are back over in the factory in Portugal getting repaired as we speak! I'd have expected a lot more from these "High End" binoculars!
