Greetings All,
I am glad this thread has generated some discussion. There are a couple of points that need to be made. Firearms are not like normal property. Our firearms liscence gives us the authority to own and use firearms. It also requires us to take steps to stop them falling into the wrong hands. Once we have left the scene it becomes the Police's responsibility to ensure the firearms do not fall into the wrong hands. It is not the role of the police to ensure that firearms are disposed of in accordance with our wishes it is ours. We all need to take steps to ensure that this happens. Both a primary and back up plan is needed. Part of these plans should involve handing on or selling firearms that are surplus to requirements while we are still able. This is something that I need to do over the coming years.
