    Let's talk slings...

I'm on the lookout for a new sling,

    Niggeloh,
    Allen,
    3hgr,

What do you all think? I'm wanting good quality, comfortable, but can't figure out which one to go for. Like the look of the brown big game suede Allen ones, but didn't like the brown

The niggeloh neoprene ruck sack looks good also?

Anyone used them all and can comment ? Or any other options.

Have 4 Niggeloh std slings and one of the backpack versions . Would take something very special to make me change.

Is the niggel9h back pack version the rick sack one?

A 1" wide strip of leather.

Had a fancy padded one once. Had to turn it upside down to stop it sliding off.

Have a leather one with a wide section for the shoulder. But the wide edges off so it's now 1" the whole length.

It's good if the 1" wide strap of leather has some holes in it for adjustment.

I also have quite a few bits of strapping tied to my rifle with a rolling hitch (knot that slides only when you want it to) for adjustment.

It looks like a 1" wide strip of leather.

I can show how to make a good adjustable improvised sling from a bit of strap.

I personally not a fan of neoprene slings , find the rifle bounces to much , to rubbery for me. Have been seriously considering the 3hgr light harness myself.
But the best sling I have had so far was a 1" nylon shoulder strap off a sports bag. Same idea as tussock's but find leather stays wet much longer than nylon and can stretch and distort out of shape , and is heavier.
The bag strap had a slide adjuster so length could be adjusted in seconds and just looped it through the swivels and used the plastic loop through buckle things at each end to secure the straps.
Light , fast adjustment , water resistant and flexible with no bounce.

    this

I get sling swivels and take them to my horse shooer and leather man
they usually have dark and light leather the dark definitely looks better
cost me about $40 mates rates for the bits and bobs and to put it together

strong so you can use them as a single wrap for stabilizing a standing shot too

Google Z-Aim sling. Literally the best hunting accessory I've come across. Easy to make with some 25mm webbing and some plastic buckles. There have been a few threads/posts on this topic in the past. Standard rifle slings drive me absolutely nuts!

The Niggeloh with the forward strap around the barrel. Nothing better. Wont slip off shoulder and the slight stretch cushions and absorbs jumps and bumps so the rifle doesn't bounce.

Forgive my ignorance but I have never understood why you would have a sling that wraps around the barrel when there's a perfectly good sling stud to use. Can't use it as a brace either due to loading up the barrel.
What's the benefit of that type over a stud attachment?
