    Leupold CDS windage?

I have a VX3 4.5-14x40 CDS and whilst I really like the scope, I'm baffled as to why Leupold didn't put either another CDS on the windage turret or why they don't offer some type of MOA reticule for them.

What are other people with the same scopes/CDS doing to judge windage at long range?
Have any of you fitted an after market turret to their scopes?

I plan to use the standard finger turret under the cap

Request a blank CDS turret from leupold and have it engraved locally.

Will it fit on the windage turret? I had the caps off earlier and doesn't look like the windage turret will take a CDS style cap.
That was what I wanted to do, as I still have the original MOA turret on the elevation so can still send off for a free custom turret.

I'm not sure on that. I believe it can be done on a vx6 but I haven't looked at it myself.

Thinking about it, it should be possible on a vx3 to as you can fit m1 turrets on to them so I would have thought the turret base was the same. I'm not sure on that tho.

I guess it depends what you call long range. I use a VX3 4.5 x 14 x 40 with a cds turret. Thats on top of my 7mm08 and Ive shot deer and Thar out to 600 yds with it often. For me if its blowing a gale I wouldnt take the shot anyway. A 10- 15 kph side wind at 500 yds wont make a huge difference to my bullet drift anyway so I personally wouldnt worry about it. Id compensate by aiming 10cm or so to the left or right.

This stag I shot at 396 yds with Steve 338 's 7mm08 , Same scope in a reasonable crosswind.Instead of aiming at the shoulder crease it was mid gut and it dropped him stone dead.

If your shooting well past 500 yds do it. Otherwise I wouldnt bother.

Shot a Tahr at 520m at the weekend and with a 10-15 variable crosswind, holding for wind was fine.

I practice out to 800m+ on steel but wanting to push further.
I have a Nightforce, but am very reluctant to put a 30+ ounce scope on a lightweight hunting rifle!

Good call. I had a nightforce on top a t3 in 7mmremmag and the recoil was brutal.

Just had news that my new Varimax brake from Dean Maisey has been fitted and rifle is ready to be picked up from Gunworks.
That should sort the recoil out on the .270 WSM firing the new 150 LR Accubonds.
Weathers looking crap for the weekend in ChCh but I have some testing to do! ;-)
