    Leupold replacement a VX freedom

I had an old Leupold scope that came with a rifle I purchased, so old it had no model description and had a friction adjustment, it would not track. I sent it to NIOA in Queensland who carried out repairs to the erector (replaced with 2nd hand ones) and was then overhauled, parallax corrected etc. When it was being reassembled the objective lens delaminated and they they couldn't repair or replace it so they sent back a new VX freedom for no charge, Question is are they any good or just a VX1 with another name, good for a centre fire or put it on a .22?
    Cheers jeff

Rule of thumb is that USA products using patriotic names (freedom, patriot ect...) for marketing are rubbish.

I think Leupold said they were better than the VX1, but to me my VX1 looks better quality than my Freedom.
The Freedom is on a 243 that shoots very well, so the scope must be okay, but it hasn't had a rough life, no drops or falls etc, I don't think it has even seen rain.

well its obviously better than the one you sent them......its new and works...and still has lifetime guarantee,so if it craps out...send it back.

Yeah found some reviews and basically a vx2 so happy enough to keep it as a reserve scope.

My Freedom performed okay yesterday, dialing what Strelok reckoned for 590m (11moa) and 865m (23moa, so once round plus 8) put me bang on the correct elevation. I still have to check it went back to its zero, and I guess the real test would be how it handles repeated dialing over time (i.e. durability of the internals).

My old vx2 from 1981 sits on my 338 win mag and handles the recoil no problem, vx2 scopes are good value.

I have a Freedom 1.5-4x20mm on one of my combo guns and it is every bit as nice as the VX-2 it replaced. I like the Pig-Plex reticle for fast acquisition on close in coyotes.
