    Leupold VX 6 2-12x42 Question

I have zero knowledge / experience of Leupolds CDS scopes .
I recently purchased a secondhand VX6 2-12x42 scope ( I have no idea how old it is , but it’s in good condition) and I’ve got a question about the CDS turrets .
The scope has a capped elevation turret and I thought that these came with an exposed dialing turret , with just moa gradients , and you then could order a custom turret to match your Rifles ballistics ?
There is a card in the box saying that I can get a CDS turret for it though , do these normally come with an exposed elevation turret, or is mine the way it’s supposed to be .

    Cheers

I guess your best bet is to get in touch with the leupold importer (https://www.leupold.com/international-dealers)

They used to be pretty good when I had to deal with them in the past.

I bought basically the same scope 2nd hand. It has a CDS dial turret with specific ballistics (so has had the voucher redeemed). The origincal turret still in the box is as you describe, a normal terret with screw off cap.

I also have a leupold vx freedom that came fitted with its MOA exposed turret and a voucher.

Yep, it’s the 1st generation VX6. My recommendation would be get hold of NZ Asia in Nelson who are agents here and arrange with them to get a Zero Lock turret fitted. I think you can get ZL1 (single turn) or ZL2 (2 turn) to replace the old capped turret. They send off to Leupold in Aussie to get done. I have sent several to them & have been very happy with the job & service. This was a few years back now, cost was around $250-280 ish.

Or, if you will be using a single load, claim the CDS.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

Get it off to NIAO in Queensland for a single or two turn turret mod that the current VX6 has, so you can dial. I got my Gen 1 VX6 done by Leupold.

Thanks to all that have responded
It will be used on my 6x45 ( 6mm 223 ) which I have a known / favourite/ accurate load for with enough components to last a very long time .
I think I’ll get a custom CDS for this load .
Buttt……. I wonder if I should just get a standard dial moa turret that will make it more usable if I want to use it on other Rifles in the future ?

Mine has a MOA sticker wrap around it, you could get an MOA turret and then put a 6x45 sticker wrap around it if you want to keep it future proof.

All well answered above....I have the first Gen like yours and a later 2 turn zero lock.
I just got a cap printed in Moa as loads/conditions and rifles change.
Now you have the option to upgrade to zero lock If you want to.

I see Custom Scope Turrets is working on a Leupold zero lock dial also. Not sure when he will be ready to sell them
